Job Summary

Under general nursing direction the CNM functions within an organized system for the delivery of healthcare as a member of an interprofessional team. The CNM provides nurse-midwifery care in the Obstetrics Midwifery & Gynecology Clinic Family Birth Center and postpartum collaboration with the physician the essential job functions include the following:

  1. Antepartum care (both 1:1 and Centering Pregnancy) in collaboration with Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program team members and social service agencies.
  2. Intrapartum care and Birth Center triage.
  3. Postpartum care (inpatient and outpatient).
  4. Family planning.
  5. Furnishing of medication.
  6. Clinical education of nurse-midwifery students medical students and residents.
  7. Documentation of care via electronic medical record.
  8. The 2325 Certified Nurse Midwife may perform other related duties as assigned/required.

License and Certification:

1. Possession of a valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the California State Board of Registered Nursing.

2. Possession of a valid California Nurse-Midwife license.

3. Possession of certification by the American Midwifery Certification Board.

4. Possession of a valid Nurse-Midwife Furnishing Number issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.

Applicants must meet the minimum qualification requirement by the final filing date unless otherwise noted.

One-year full-time employment is equivalent to 2000 hours (2000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week). 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:The stated desirable qualifications may be considered at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.

  • Spanish language skill proficient to provide midwifery care.

Selection Procedures
After application submission candidates deemed qualified must complete all subsequent steps to advance in this selection process which includes the following. 

Training and Evaluation: (Weight: 100%)

The training and evaluation questionnaire is designed to measure the knowledge skills and abilities in job related areas which may include but not be limited to: 

Knowledge of medications and their appropriate use during antepartum intrapartum postpartum and family planning phases of care. Knowledge of methods and procedures for assessing and managing the health of the pregnant/birthing person risk factors and potential complications. Knowledge of signs symptoms and potential effects or conditions that present risk to the pregnant person and/or their baby. Ability to communicate effectively with patients and their support people from diverse backgrounds. Ability to order and/or perform and interpret common laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging tests. Ability to perform a complete and accurate physical exam and standard medical procedures required for antepartum intrapartum postpartum and family planning. 

Candidates must achieve a passing score on the Training and Evaluation questionnaire to continue in the selection process and will be placed on the confidential eligible list in rank order according to their final score. 

Additional selection processes may be conducted by the hiring department prior to making final hiring decisions. 

Certification 
The certification rule for the eligible list resulting from this examination will be theRule of the list Scores. 

Eligible List/Score Report
A confidential eligible list of applicant names that have passed the civil service examination process will be created and used for certification purposes only. An examination score report will be established so applicants can view the ranks final scores and number of eligible candidates. Applicant information including names of applicants on the eligible list shall not be made public unless required by law. However an eligible list shall be made available for public inspection upon request once the eligible list is exhausted or expired and referrals resolved. The eligible list/score report resulting from this civil service examination process is subject to change after adoption (e.g. as a result of appeals) as directed by the Human Resources Director or the Civil Service Commission.

The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination process will be of 6 months and may be extended with the approval of the Human Resources Director.
