The Lethbridge Police Service is seeking to hireone (1) or more full-time permanent Community Peace Officers with offsite training to commence for successfully hired applicants in approximately August 2026.
The LPS has developed a very unique to Alberta Community Peace Officer (CPO) program. The vision of the LPS is guided by the highest standards of public safety we are committed to supporting our community by addressing crime maintaining public safety and strengthening public trust. CPOs will help further our vision by enhancing community perceptions of safety and increasing our capacity to continue to respond efficiently and effectively to calls for service.
Lethbridge Police Service CPOs are particularly unique in Alberta due to their enhanced authority to initiate and conduct criminal investigations involving theft and mischief where the value of the property does not exceed five thousand Peace Officers employed throughout the Province of Alberta are appointed under the Peace Officer Act. Within Lethbridge CPOs are accountable to the City of Lethbridge Lethbridge Police Service and the Provincial Director of Law Enforcement to execute their assigned duties.
Reporting to the Community Peace Officer Sergeant the role of a Community Peace Officer is to assist with public contact and support public safety within the community.
Hours of Work: Shift work including a rotation of days evenings nights weekends;
Starting Job Rate: $41.99 per hour 2026 Rate
Full Job Rate: $46.67 per hour 2026 Rate (After completion of 18-month probation period)
This permanent full-time position falls under the protection of a collective agreement associated to the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 70 contract. CUPE Local 70 represents employees who are employed in number of civic departments within the City of Lethbridge.

The successful candidate is required to consent to a police security clearance which includes the voluntary completion and submission of a personal disclosure form (lifestyle questionnaire) criminal and police records check reference checks and truth verification through polygraph examination.
STEPS OF HIRING PROCESS
All components of the selection process will be administered scored evaluated and interpreted in a fair and uniform manner. The duration of the hiring and selection process once the posting has closed should be approximately three to four addition to meeting the requirements of each stage of our CPO hiring process outlined below applications will be assessed at each hiring stage based on organizational fit and overall competitiveness.
