Primary Purpose:

Supervises all athletic coaches and secondary athletic programs on the local campus; coordinates the activities of all head coaches in scheduling employment of officials and other routine matters concerned with efficiently managing intra- and inter-school contests.

Qualifications:

Education and Certification

  • Bachelors degree required from an accredited institution
  • Masters degree (preferred)
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate issued by State Board for Educator Certification

Experience

  • Successful tenure as a teacher and coach

Knowledge and Skills

  • Basic knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures
  • Basic knowledge of University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules
  • Advanced interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships with staff community and other stakeholders.
  • Advanced organizational verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient multitasking skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Proficient in utilizing digital devices (personal computer laptop tablet etc.) and software applications including Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint) and Google Workspace (Docs Sheets Slides) for document creation data analysis and database management.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Leadership and Development

  • Direct all head coaches in the development of the athletic program.
  • Assist with planning and conducting needs assessments related to athletic operations and directions for the school district.
  • Maintain an in-depth awareness of the districts curricula and instructional strategies aligning athletic activities to support and enhance instructional goals.
  • Demonstrate through goal setting a clear-cut sense of direction or purpose in daily activities.

Compliance and Policy Adherence

  • Ensure compliance with Board policies Administrative Regulations and the Administrators Manual demonstrating a thorough understanding of guidelines relevant to the role.
  • Counsel coaches on eligibility requirements and UIL rules.

Staff Supervision and Development

  • Promote collegiality teamwork and participatory decision-making among all district staff members.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with others in a positive productive way.
  • Conference regularly with supervised staff; jointly develop growth plans and support individual professional development activities.

Operational and Logistical Oversight

  • Supervise arrangements for transportation meals and lodging for coaches and players.
  • Manage proper inventories of all athletic equipment as submitted by all head coaches.
  • Make arrangements for the repair of athletic equipment for all sports.
  • Issue parent approval and insurance forms to the head coaches of each sport.
  • Administer the athletic insurance program.
  • Supervise all athletic monies collected and spent.

Athletic Event Coordination

  • Accept responsibility for all campus athletic business affairs such as:
    • Tickets
    • Ushers and workers assigned
    • Police assigned
    • Parking attendants assigned
    • Press box manager assigned
    • Pay information for officials
    • Paying visiting schools
    • Preparing or supervising financial statements for each game

Community Engagement and Representation

  • Positively represent the campus athletic program to the public other schools UIL and related organizations.
  • Articulate appropriately to the general public the school districts overall mission goals and how the functions of the athletic department support these activities.
  • Participate in community activities (to the extent feasible and appropriate) that foster rapport and mutual respect between the district and the larger community.

Professionalism and Continuous Improvement

  • Seek accept and respond to evaluative feedback from subordinates peers and superiors utilizing such information to improve performance.
  • Take initiative to develop needed professional skills appropriate to job assignments.
  • Conduct oneself professionally and ethically.
  • Complete assignments promptly and with exceptional attention to detail ensuring accuracy and efficiency in all tasks.
  • Understand pupil management objectives and their relationship with the athletic program.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Participate in professional development department meetings and special events as assigned.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of the department and campus.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of all campus-based athletic programs and coaches.
  • Recommend the hiring or firing of coaches to the campus principal and district athletic coordinator.
  • Monitor junior high school implementation of philosophies strategies and techniques as emphasized and guided by the high school coach.

Tools/Equipment Used: Athletic equipment standard office equipment including computer and peripherals and other instructional equipment; automated external defibrillator (AED); operate school bus

Posture: Prolonged standing; kneeling squatting bending and stooping; frequent driving; moderate grasping/squeezing wrist flexion/extension and reaching

Motion: Frequent walking and physical movements associated with sport(s) assigned

Lifting: Frequently light lifting (less than 15 pounds); occasional moderate lifting or carrying (15-44 pounds)

Environment: Work outside (exposure to sun heat cold and inclement weather) and inside; frequent exposure to noise; frequent districtwide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; moderate exposure to vehicle fumes and work around moving vehicles; frequent districtwide and occasional statewide travel
