Bidgerdii Community Health Services is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled primary health care service operating in the Rockhampton and wider Central Queensland region for more than 30 years.

Bidgerdii provides comprehensive primary healthcare and wellbeing services collaborates with partner agencies for integrated continuity of care and advocates for health policy and health system reform.

Our services include general practice bulk-billing clinics social and emotional wellbeing and generalist counselling services chronic disease management preventative health screening children and family health and early childhood education services.

About the Role:

The purpose of the Intake Officer role plays a vital role in delivering high-quality secretarial and administrative support to ensure the effective and efficient provision of SEWB services within clinics and the community. This position focuses on facilitating and streamlining the intake process for individuals seeking social and emotional support services within the SEWB team.

Key responsibilities include managing the intake workflow coordinating client communication and ensuring the efficient and confidential handling of intake documentation. Additionally a crucial aspect of this role is maintaining communication with internal and external stakeholders and managing the client data record system to support optimal care pathways.

By providing essential administrative support to the SEWB team the Intake Officer ensures that individuals in need of social and emotional support can access the appropriate services in a timely and supportive manner.

About You:

You a compassionate optimistic individual wanting to make a difference in peoples lives especially our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and also have the following:

  • Certificate IV or higher in the area of either counselling psychology social work mental health or related area or willing to obtain.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the history and effects of the forcible removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and a comprehensive understanding of contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues
  • Effective communication skills and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • Demonstrated managerial skills with experience and knowledge of social emotional and mental health issues which may include culturally appropriate healing methods and trauma and grief counselling skills
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a team and willingness to refer clients to other services when necessary
  • Competence with computers especially the use of word-processing and database software

Practical Requirements:

  • Valid Blue Card (Working with children check)
  • Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD) essential
  • Immunisation requirements It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be and remain vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases: Measles Mumps Rubella Varicella Hepatitis B Hepatitis A COVID19 and pertussis (whooping cough) during their employment.
  • Satisfactory Police Criminal History Check.
