Summary
Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) mission is to lead the Department of Defense (DoD) in finance and accounting by ensuring the delivery of efficient exceptional quality pay and financial information.
- Provide statistical support (both sampling and analysis) to all DFAS Operations organizations.
- Develops new and updates existing statistical (survey) sampling plans for various reviews and applications within DFAS and the Department of Defense (DoD) using professional texts and publications on statistical (survey) sampling methodology.
- Provide quantitative analytical support to both DFAS and external DoD customers (e.g. service components and Defense Agencies) for statistical applications.
- Verifies information at the request of the DoD Comptrollers Office military service members and other DoD components.
- Analyzes using various statistical methods; such as descriptive inferential univariate multivariate and non-parametric models
- Constructs mathematical models of sampling plans using SPSS Microsoft Excel or other software programs appropriate for the specific type of data involved in the project and in adherence with applicable guidelines and regulations.
- Interprets and presents both orally and in writing results from quantitative analyses of data collected from quality or financial reviews.
- Serves as statistical consultant on teams and special projects providing professional and technical guidance in areas of statistical (survey) sampling and quantitative methods of data analysis.

A. Degree: that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics) and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences medicine education or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography history economics social welfare geography international relations social or cultural anthropology health sociology political science public administration psychology etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods e.g. courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing.

B. Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling (b) collecting computing and analyzing statistical data and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency dispersion skewness sampling error simple and multiple correlation analysis of variance and tests of significance.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement qualified applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-11) in the Federal service which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Specialized experience is defined as experience such as: Experience applying advanced statistical principles to large-scale financial and accounting systems. This includes designing and implementing statistical sampling plans to test financial transactions performing complex data analysis using software like SPSS or SAS and applying a wide range of analytical techniques such as regression and variance analysis.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual community student social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience.
