OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Director of Financial Compliance & Performance Optimization the Operational Controller Eastern Programs is responsible for overseeing a variety of business functions and processes to ensure the organizations operations run smoothly and efficiently. The role sits at the intersection of operations finance and performance management for Eastern Programs providing visibility into how the business of this area is functioning and where improvements are needed.
This is a 15-month contract position that requires residency in Canada with occasion visits to the Toronto office.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate with financial stakeholders to support budgeting and forecasting processes and operational stakeholders to complete financial analysis to support business operations.
- Partner with the business to support RFPs and contract negotiations by completing financial calculations to support project viability and reviewing terms and conditions.
- Coordinate internal and external teams to resolve day-to-day issues acting as a subject matter expert who represents the department for assigned functions and processes.
- Monitor actuals vs. budget at an operational level including tracking cost drivers to explain variances to management to develop action plans.
- Calculate and/or validate accuracy of invoices accruals coding of expenditures and cost allocations to ensure appropriate financial transaction recording.
- Support assigned month-end close processes adhering to timelines established.
- Define and maintain operational KPIs using a variety of data sources internal and external to the organization to monitor outliers.
- Develop and maintain models using financial and non-financial data with various end output goals (e.g. what-if scenarios cost benefit cost reduction) based upon needs of business.
- Perform process reviews to ensure compliance with EPR regulations and reporting requirements improve internal controls and enhance data quality or structure.
- Identify areas for improvement and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to implement control enhancements through new operational processes.
- Lead external audits and/or regulatory requests from third-parties by collecting and amalgamating information or performing calculations with raw data as required.
- Ad-hoc tasks as directed by management to support organizational needs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Bachelors degree in business or another related field
- CPA designation preferred
Experience
- 7-10 years of experience in finance accounting with strong exposure to operational finance
- Progressive experience with accounting standards internal controls and financial reporting
- Experience in a multi-department program based or regulatory environment is an asset
- Advance knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint
- Preferred knowledge of SAP
- Preferred knowledge of PowerBi and/or other automation tools
Knowledge/Competencies/Skills
- Preference for experience in accounting or supply chain management role
- Proven experience leading complex projects involving multiple stakeholders
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Analytical mindset that is able to handle advanced modelling exercises

WORKING CONDITIONS
- All CM employees work 40 hours per week remotely from a home office environment.
- This role requires occasional work in the Toronto head office.
PAY TRANSPARENCY
ExpectedCompensation:
- An annual base salary in the range of $114000 to $145000.
