Description

Position Objective: The Genomics Support Scientist shall provide services in in support of the overall functions of the Office of Chief Scientist - Integrated Research Facility (OCSIRF) within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. The Technology Core will provide support for advanced research support capabilities for the Integrated Research Facility-Frederick (IRF-Frederick). These capabilities include technologies and instrumentation that will support advanced research needs across the IRF-Frederick work includes build and maintain advanced cutting-edge technologies to ensure virology research needs are addition to developing performing and analyzing data to support virology research needs the Technology Core members are expected to assist virology research staff as requested to build additional expertise within the facility.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide genomics support research services to support virology research such as specialized technical skills focused on DNA/RNA extraction purification and analysis.
Perform work with sequencing equipment and data analysis.
Responsible for performing experimental tasks both within the biocontainment facility and in BSL-2 research laboratories.
Maintain an accurate inventory of specimens reagents and supplies and will also be responsible for laboratory inventory management submitting purchase requests managing laboratory resources and maintaining appropriate laboratory research documentation (notebooks).
Execute genomics and sequencing research as directed
Perform work on operating sequencing equipment including Illumina and Oxford Nanopore platforms
Perform work on genomics data analysis; bioinformatics
Maintain proper research documentation and data management
Maintain laboratory reagent and material inventories
Submit purchase requests
Assist with manuscript and report writing as requested

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

Minimum of a full 4-year course of study from an accredited college or university leading to a B.S. or higher degree that includes specialized training and research in molecular biology virology or genomics

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous laboratory research experience at least 3 years preferred
Genomics research experience preferred
Previous recent BSL-3 or BSL-4 experience preferred
Ability to work independently multitask and pay close attention to detail
Strong written oral and visual communication skills
Ability and willingness to work on a team excellent customer relations
Proficiency with Microsoft Word PowerPoint or other equivalent software suites
