PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Under the direction of the Principal the Dean of Instruction serves as a member of the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) to provide leadership for teaching and learning. The Dean of Instruction leads the development implementation evaluation and continuous improvement of instructional programs to improve student achievement and postsecondary readiness. This position focuses on strengthening instructional practice supporting educator growth and ensuring alignment of curriculum assessment and instruction across academic and Career and Technical Education programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instructional Leadership
- Lead the planning implementation monitoring and evaluation of high school instructional programs aligned to state standards graduation requirements and district priorities.
- Ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of curriculum across content areas including Career and Technical Education pathways.
- Promote rigorous relevant and engaging instruction that prepares students for college careers and/or military service.
- Support the implementation of instructional strategies that meet the diverse academic and developmental needs of Students.
- Oversee the use of formative and summative assessments to inform instructional improvement.
Data Analysis and Academic Improvement
- Analyze student achievement graduation attendance and assessment data to identify trends gaps and instructional priorities.
- Support departments and teachers in using data to plan instruction interventions and enrichment.
- Monitor the effectiveness of instructional interventions and make recommendations for improvement.
Teacher Growth Coaching and Evaluation
- Conduct formal and informal classroom observations across content areas.
- Provide timely specific and actionable feedback to improve instructional practice.
- Support the professional growth and evaluation of instructional staff in alignment with district and state frameworks.
- Design and facilitate job-embedded professional learning aligned to school improvement goals.
- Support new teachers through coaching mentoring and instructional guidance.
Career and Technical Education Leadership
- Support high-quality implementation of Career and Technical Education programs aligned to industry standards and postsecondary credentials.
- Collaborate with CTE teachers and coordinators to ensure instructional rigor safety and program compliance.
- Promote integration of academic and technical instruction to support student pathways.
School Improvement and Leadership
- Serve as a member of the school leadership team and contribute to the development and monitoring of the School Improvement Plan.
- Lead instructional initiatives and improvement strategies as assigned by the principal.
- Support professional learning communities focused on instructional quality and student outcomes.
- Foster a school culture that values continuous improvement collaboration and accountability.
Operational and Administrative Support
- Support master scheduling course offerings and staffing decisions to ensure instructional effectiveness and graduation requirements are met.
- Assist with supervision of instructional staff and students as assigned.
- Support school operations related to instruction including testing coordination and instructional resources.
- Perform additional administrative and supervisory duties as assigned by the Principal.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
- Masters degree in Education Administration or a related field. Must possess a valid state administrative or supervisory license or eligibility for licensure.
- Experience in Career and Technical Education at the high school level preferred.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Comprehensive understanding of effective secondary instructional practices.
- Ability to coach and develop teachers to improve instructional outcomes.
- Strong data literacy and ability to guide data-informed instructional decisions.
- Ability to lead adults manage multiple priorities and support complex school operations.
- Commitment to equity student achievement and postsecondary readiness.
Working Conditions
- School-based administrative setting.
