SALARY: $23.86 per hour
The Service Aide is accountable for maintaining the hygiene and cleanliness of passenger and crew areas ensuring the smooth operation of the cafeteria and providing excellent customer service. The Service Aide is also responsible for adhering to food safety standards verify and collect boarding passes and participating in emergency procedures to ensure passenger and crew safety.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
The primary job duties and responsibilities for the Service Aide include but are not limited to the following:
- General hygiene of interior passenger spaces crew mess and cafeteria areas including restrooms and seating areas.
- The daily operation of the cafeteria.
- Carrying out food service including sales transactions with passengers.
- Keeping the cafeteria area and crew mess clean stocked and organized.
- Ensuring that food safety and sanitation standards are met.
- Store and track inventory for linen used by crew on board.
- Verify and collect boarding passes from oncoming passengers.
- Providing excellent customer service to passengers.
- Providing information to passengers about the ferry schedule amenities and safety procedures.
- Following all safety procedures and regulations including those related to food handling and storage and emergency procedures.
- Ensuring passenger safety and welfare including assisting self-identified persons with disabilities.
- Carrying out emergency duties and participating in drills.
- Working in a safe manner to ensure the wellbeing of themselves crew and passengers.
- Engaging/disengaging the passenger ramp as directed.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION KNOWLEDGE WORK EXPERIENCE and SKILLS
- Marine Emergency Duties (MED) certification including Basic Safety Firefighting and Proficiency in Survival Craft certifications or ability to complete after 6 months of sea time.
- Marine Basic First Aid is preferred.
- Transport Canada Marine Medical certificate preferred.
- Valid fit for work document completed by a physician required.
- Valid Passport and cleared to enter the United States of America or have the proper accompanying documents and visas preferred.
- Experience and proven ability to operate a Point-of-Sale (POS) terminal.
- Ability to read write understand and speak English.
- Possess initiative a team-oriented work style and a track record for workplace safety.
- Safe Food Handling certification preferred.
- Customer service experience an asset.
SAFETY SENSITIVE ENVIRONMENT
- Zero tolerance for drugs or alcohol.
- Proper Personal Protective Equipment (safety shoes eye protection hand protection head protection and hearing protection).
EFFORT PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS
Ability to perform high physical demands including:
- Lifting to 50lbs.
- Ability to stand consistently for 2 hours at a time.
- Regular need to climb a flight of stairs.
- Work involves physical effort bending crouching climbing walking crawling and working in awkward positions at heights and in confined spaces.
- Regular exposure to noise dirt fumes chemicals hazardous substances and equipment requires the use of personal protective equipment.
- Ability to communicate in person and over the phone.
- Ability to read write understand and speak English in print and on a computer screen.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Mobility to work in a shipboard marine environment at dock and in transit.
- Occasional exposure to adverse weather conditions.
- Shift work and requirement to be away from home for periods of time up to one week.
- Occasional requirement to respond to unplanned or time sensitive operational needs beyond standard hours of work to respond to emergencies and time sensitive matters.
- Fast-paced self-directed work environment.
