About the role
Te Pā works with a range of Rangatahi who have been released from prison and in the community. Our Rangatahi can have high and complex needs be disconnected from their culture experienced ongoing trauma homeless and have been marginalised throughout their life.
The position of the Rangatahi Peer Support/Support Administrator is to leverage their personal lived experience of challenges (such as mental health issues or addiction and recovery) to provide support mentorship and positive role modelling to other young people (rangatahi) and their whānau (families). The primary goal is to inspire hope promote well-being and support rangatahi in their journey toward recovery and positive life outcomes as part of our Te Whitinga OTe Rā Program.
Rangatahi Peer Support
This role will work with the wider Rangatahi team alongside our Rangatahi supporting them on their journey through change and looking after day to day operations. They will be focused on providing care welfare safety and security from a trauma informed lens with the ultimate goal of preparing our Rangatahi to live independently and reaching their moemoea and full potential.
Support Administrator
In addition this role will provide general administrative support to enable the smooth-running of the Te Whitinga OTe Rā Program. All mahi undertaken will align with the Te Pā organizational and strategic framework by providing a high level of effective and confidential administration support as directed by the Service Manager to maximize the Te Whitinga OTe Rā Program team in their ability to carry out their mahi effectively.
Requirements
Lived experience
Experience within the Ministry of Justice sector Department of Corrections and/ or Probation Services.
A pro-active approach to motivate inspire and encourage others.
Competent in Te Reo Māori me ona Tikanga Māori
Demonstrated experience in providing high-level administration preferably within a not-for-profit organization.
High level of organizational skills and ability to manage and meet competing deadlines
Experience working with people from diverse cultural and socio- economic backgrounds
Commitment and understanding of Kaupapa Māori and the associated values processes and principles governed by Tikanga.
Understanding of Tiriti o Waitangi and its impact on social- systems in society and the community.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
A high standard of ethics and confidentiality to handle sensitive information
Sound professional and ethical boundaries
Adaptable agile and flexible
Capability to problem solve work independently organize own time
High attention to detail and accurate information collation and sharing
Level of ICT literacy
Capability to facilitate new knowledge in a range of situations and according to need.
Ability to write at a high level including accurate records and reports.
A current full drivers licence.
Desirable
Te reo Māori.
Te reo Pasifika.
Experience in working with Rangatahi
Experience working within a Kaupapa Māori organization.
Experience delivering a culturally responsive service to tangata whānau and hapori.
Experience working with a range of community networks.
