What youll be doing
Youre joining a summer camp team where roles and tasks are collaborative and shared. As a Recreation Coach youll be leading all things sports and recreation. Ensuring campers remain active learn new teamwork skills and ensure they have a great time doing it. Youll also be the master of all things Color War.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
The duties for this role include but are not limited to:
- Lead a project based sports and recreation program that promotes physical activity along with learning about health and mental wellness
- Adapt and update current curricula and program goals to meet the physical and social needs of different camper groups for rising grades 1 through 5
- Mentor counselors and Assistant Recreation Coaches giving direct guidance and instructions for maximum effectiveness while prioritizing safety
- Supervise and assist campers with the goals of:
- Promoting collaboration among campers & staff
- Establishing a mutual attitude of caring and creating among all campers & staff
- Helping campers acquire new skills during their program blocks
- Infusing all activities with fun
- Provide curriculum specific supply lists based upon recommended budgets to the Leadership Team at least one month prior to the start of the Co-Op Program
- Manage sports and recreation supply inventory set up necessary supplies and materials each day ensure adequate supplies are maintained throughout the camp season track loaned equipment from the school district ensuring all are returned in good working order
- Fill jugs with water and ice throughout each day ensuring an adequate supply for all and that campers and staff are well hydrated
- Create supervise and implement a master design plan for Color War including selecting activities maintaining instructions and preparing supplies
- Attend camp trips as a supervisory team member possibly functioning as a Trip Director Bus Leader or Group Leader as necessary
- Attend all orientation week training sessions
- Enforce the highest level of safety at all times adhering to camp policies and procedures
- Collaborate with the Leadership Team and any other professional staff to implement the program
Requirements
We are looking for team players who are friendly flexible and want to give back. 15% of staff have been working for us for 5 years. We build commitment and community.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of teaching experience or working professionally in a school setting
- Bachelors degree in education or related field; high preference given to those with experience in Early Childhood Education Childhood Education and/or Teaching English to Students of Other Languages
Besides that you might:
- Have a desire to make a difference in the lives of kids
- Are Bilingual (Spanish/English)
- Want to know what Color Wars is and are already strategizing to win the annual trophy
All employees must:
- Possess a valid social security card and NYS state identification
- Willing to take a background check with fingerprint approval if you are not a Mamaroneck School District employee (we will provide instructions as part of the onboarding process)
- Provide two professional references if you are not a Mamaroneck School District employee and are a new Co-Op employee
- Have availability to work the entire camp season and attend all required orientations and trainings
REQUIRED PROGRAM DATES & TIMES:
Camp-season:
June 29 2026 to August 7 2026 (No camp July 4th)
- 8:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. Regular camp days
- 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Regular camp days with weekly staff meeting
*all program start and end times/dates subject to change until program design is complete by June 1st
