JOB SUMMARY
Plans organizes and coordinates garden and greenhouse activities. Supervises and instructs prisoner workers in horticultural practices chemical use and other propagation techniques.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Horticulture or other closely related field; OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience in horticulture agriculture and/or landscape design.
A pesticide applicator license and ServSafe certification must be obtained within three (3) months of the hire date.
Due to the nature of this position the successful applicant must pass a required background check through fingerprinting and enrollment in the continuous RAP Back (Record of Arrest and Prosecution Back) program in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position works in the Salt Lake County Jail (which is a locked-down facility) has direct contact with prisoners and may be exposed to stress because of human behavior in a jail environment.
Time will be spent in the office classroom garden and public settings. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THIS POSITION
This position is required to work with prisoners at both the Salt Lake County Metro and Oxbow Jails as well as frequently attend the Downtown Farmers Market.
May be required to work nights and weekends as needed.
