This temporary position is located at 4312 District Drive Raleigh NC 27607 in Raleigh - Wake County with the Department of Health and Human Services.


Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $21.86 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).

Management Preferences:

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner plays a vital role in forensic investigations ensuring accurate and thorough analysis of deaths across North Carolina Key units include the Autopsy Toxicology and Investigations Units which conduct autopsies forensic testing and medicolegal investigations Child Fatality Prevention Program which reviews child deaths to recommend policy changes; the Epidemiology team which analyzes Medical Examiner data and provides annual reports; and the Medical Examiner Unit responsible for training and oversight of medical examiners

This position is in the Investigations unit The Medical Examiner Specialist/Medicolegal Death Investigator Assistant (MDI-A) provides support to OCME pathologists the medicolegal death investigators the Statewide Medical Examiner System and facilitates communication with law enforcement personnel hospitals funeral homes and families

  • This position will provide data entry for high-volume investigation reports death certificates autopsy reports meeting requests for public records file/case review and filing.
  • Must be highly organized detail-oriented and an effective communicator.
  • This position provides support to the Chief Medical Examiner other Pathologists and Medical Examiners within the state ME system as well as provides information to decedent families via document request fulfillment.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
