Wakefield Memorial High School is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE) substitute Guidance Counselor for an approximately 8-week assignment. The substitute counselor will provide short-term academic personal and college/career counseling support to students working closely with students families and school staff to maintain continuity of services during the absence.
REPORTS TO: Director of Guidance and Building Principal
KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters Degree in Psychology Social Work or School Counseling
- MA License as School Counselor or eligible for licensure
- Prior experience working with students in a school counseling setting is preferred
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide academic personal/social and college/career counseling to assigned students
- Support student scheduling and course adjustments as needed
- Meet individually or in small groups with students
- Collaborate with teachers administrators and support staff
- Communicate with parents/guardians as appropriate
- Complete required documentation and reports
- Make referrals to internal and external support services when necessary
- Maintain confidentiality and follow district and school policies
- Perform other related duties as assigned by administration
SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Understanding of student confidentiality and school counseling ethics
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize student needs
- Familiarity with high school academic and postsecondary planning
