Position: Business Operations Intern
Location: On-site. 1405 N. Church Street Rocky Mount NC 27804
Internship Duration: 10-week internship (May 26 2026 to July 31 2026)
About the Internship:
Are you interested in developing strong business operations technical and data-management skills in a fast-paced public service environment Join NCDOTs Data Management Services team as a Business Office Intern where you will support critical initiatives related to system transitions records compliance and operational improvements. This internship supports the Data Control unit and related stakeholders by assisting with system testing Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) updates file retention requirements and the transition of Law Enforcement agencies to the NCCRIS program.
This role offers hands-on experience working with technical systems operational documentation and cross-functional teams to ensure accurate compliant and efficient management of motor vehicle and law enforcement data.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with updating the audio/visual sections of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) activities including system validation and documentation
Provide guidance and support related to report deletion processes and file retention requirements
Assist with the transition of Law Enforcement agencies to the NCCRIS program
Support records management activities to ensure compliance with State and Federal requirements
Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to resolve system and process issues
Assist with report handling system testing and operational documentation updates
Perform general business office support tasks including document preparation research and coordination across teams
Ideal Candidate:
We are seeking a highly organized detail-oriented and proactive individual pursuing a degree in Business Information Systems Computer Science Criminal Justice Public Administration or a related field. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong analytical thinking clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders while managing technical and operational tasks.
Preferred Skills and Knowledge:
Technical and data-management skills including system testing and report handling
Experience or interest in records management and file retention requirements
Ability to analyze processes identify issues and recommend logical solutions
Strong written and verbal communication skills

Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be a currently enrolled full-time student in a bachelors masters or professional level program at an accredited or recently graduated from a North Carolina Historically Black College/University (HBCU) or Minority Serving Institution (MSI) by May 2026.
- 24 credit hours completed.
- Minimum overall GPA of 2.5 (on 4.0 scale)
- Has legal right to work in the U.S. and do not need sponsorship
