Job Title: Special Education (SPED) Long-Term Substitute Teacher
Location: Leesburg VA 20176
Duration: 19 weeks with possible extension
Shift Timing: 9:30 AM 4:30 PM
Job Overview
A school is seeking a Special Education (SPED) Long-Term Substitute Teacher to provide instructional and behavioral support to students with disabilities during an extended teacher absence. This role ensures continuity of learning while supporting students in alignment with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and applicable state and federal regulations.
Responsibilities
Deliver specialized instruction aligned with IEP goals and state curriculum standards
Implement and monitor accommodations modifications and behavior intervention plans
Maintain a structured inclusive and supportive classroom environment
Track document and report student progress toward IEP objectives
Collaborate with general education teachers paraprofessionals service providers and administrators
Participate in IEP meetings team meetings and parent communication as required
Ensure compliance with IDEA district policies and special education documentation requirements
Adapt lesson plans and instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs
Maintain accurate student records attendance and progress monitoring data
Qualifications
Bachelors degree required (Education or related field preferred)
Valid substitute teaching license or teaching certification (SPED preferred per state requirements)
Experience working with students with disabilities (learning emotional behavioral or physical)
Strong classroom management communication and collaboration skills
Ability to follow IEPs and work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
Preferred Skills
Knowledge of special education laws and compliance standards
Experience with behavior management strategies and differentiated instruction
Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive learning tools
Patience flexibility and strong organizational skills
