Position: Temporary Analyst - School Finance

Salary Range: $ 42.52 $50.71 per hour plus 4% vacation pay Band 5

Location: J.W. Singleton Education Centre

Work Schedule: 35 hours/week 12 months a year

Effective Date: ASAP - August 31 2026



Position Summary:

Reporting to the Manager of Accounting School Finances & Risk Management the Analyst School Finance is responsible for providing support in the administration of School Generated Funds School Council Funds and Decentralized School Budgets within the department and to schools. The incumbent is responsible for the preparation of journal entries budget adjustments running financial reports and general administrative support. The Analyst School Finance also provides troubleshooting and user support as the first point of contact on the departments ticketing system in areas related to adherence of Board policies and procedures and financial analysis and provides school based training and support when needed.


The HDSB follows a Work from Home Administrative accordance with this Administrative Procedure and with the approval of the immediate supervisor employees who work at HDSB administrative sites may work from home for up to 50% of their regularly scheduled hours. The HDSB offers funding for professional development in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Employment for management and administration support staff.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides user support as the first point of contact for tickets in the Top Desk system. Responds directly to routine questions and requests such as adding categories basic user maintenance and running reports. Triages tickets requiring advanced technical analysis or support to the Manager of Accounting - School Finances & Risk Management..

  • Coordinates month-end process for online donations received and handles inquiries on online donations. Includes preparation of excel download for month end and circulation of supporting documentation on donations to all schools receiving donated funds.

  • Performs journal entries for both decentralized budgets and school generated funds and budget adjustments on school decentralized budgets.

  • Provides administrative support to the School Financial Services department with regards to disseminating NSF Notifications to schools maintaining user contact lists preparing of marketing materials filing of records tracking of documents preparing school mailings etc.

  • Act as a resource to department staff in coordinating training activities including setting up of registration room bookings scheduling coordination and proofreading of materials.

  • Prepare and present training and resource materials on financial matters for Administrators and support staff

  • Provide user support for the Boards financial systems and implementation of Board Financial Administrative Procedures

  • Coordinates month-end and year-end process for submission of School Generated and School Council financial statements by schools to Business Services and assists in the summarization of all school financial data for review by external auditors and presentation to Board.

  • Act as a resource for Board staff on financial matters relating to schools and provide feedback on proposed changes to policies and procedures software implementation and new financial program initiatives to assess impacts on school based staff and processes.

  • Act as a backup to the Senior Analyst School Finance and perform general financial analysis


Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements

  • 3 year College Diploma in Accounting/Business or Bachelors of Business/Commerce

  • 3 years related work experience in an accounting or finance environment

  • Advanced knowledge of basic office software applications (i.e. Microsoft Office Google Suite)

  • Sound analytical and quantitative skills

  • Advanced Excel proficiency

  • Demonstrated competency in computer-based applications and ability to troubleshoot issues

  • Exemplary customer service and communication skills (written and oral)


Preferred

  • 6 years of job related experience

  • Work experience in a public school board

  • Working towards CPA designation. Above average technical accounting and financial analysis skills

  • Knowledge of payments systems including online payment systems

  • Experience with the Boards Financial Accounting System (Sparkrock Employee Centre and NAV)

Travel within the Region of Halton is required. A reliable vehicle and valid Drivers License are essential.
