Position Description

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is a community-centered utility that delivers vital services to Seattle residents and businesses including drinking water drainage and wastewater and garbage/recycling/compost. SPU also provides drinking water for 1.5 million customers in the region. SPUs work includes system maintenance and improvements and keeping Seattle clean. Job Responsibilities

The Arc Flash and Building Systems Advisor will work independently as a key advisor to the SPU Workforce Facilities Planning and Management Section and will be responsible for a new Arc Flash program to address this regulatory requirement across SPU buildings and managing other facility projects and programs around building systems. Major job duties will include:

  • Develop and implement a new utility-wide Arc Flash program which includes: Identifying SPU electrical services with an arc flash hazard. Developing scopes of work and select/managing consultant contract(s) to complete arc flash studies as needed.
    • Managing the Arc Flash program budget and other project activity which may be identified from Arc Flash related work.
    • Developing policies and procedures needed for the Arc Flash Program in coordination with SPUs Safety Team and other internal SPU teams.
  • Advise and lead other workforce facilities programs projects and policy development as assigned. This will include:
    • Managing programs and projects related to building system upgrades and replacements including building electrification work to remove fossil fuels from buildings.
    • Serving as part of the core team for the development and implementation of the new Workforce Facilities Asset Management Program
  • Brief SPUs leadership as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience: Five (5) years professional experience in facilities management program management electrical systems or other related fields

Education: Bachelors degree in Public Administration Architectural Design Electrical Engineering Electrical Studies or similar fields of study. If no degree an additional two (2) years of relevant experience is required.

Combinations of appropriate education training certification and experience(s) will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of electrical distribution systems
  • Arc Flash Training / Arc Flash OSHA certification
  • Understanding of current IEEE standards as well as NESC OSHA
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA standards specifically NFPA 70 (NEC) NFPA 70B
  • Experience setting up and managing new programs with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience managing facility projects

The full salary range for this position is $56.57 per hour - $84.88 per hour.


Workplace Environment (*Telework Expectation):
This position requires the selected candidate to work five (5) days in-office and the specific schedule will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor.
