Childhood Education Teacher (1st to 6th grades)
Position Summary
The Elementary Classroom Teacher (Grades 16) is responsible for delivering high-quality standards-aligned instruction that supports the academic social-emotional and behavioral growth of all scholars. The teacher creates a structured inclusive learning environment uses data to inform instruction and collaborates with colleagues and families to ensure student success.

Building Principal
Required Certification
- Valid New York State Teaching Certification for Grades 16 (Grades 16 or equivalent)
- Certification must be issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
- Plan and deliver rigorous standards-aligned lessons in accordance with New York State Next Generation Learning Standards
- Implement district-approved curricula with fidelity while differentiating instruction to meet diverse learner needs
- Provide explicit instruction in literacy and mathematics integrating science and social studies as appropriate
- Use instructional strategies that promote critical thinking student discourse and active engagement
Assessment & Data Use
- Regularly assess student progress using formative interim and summative assessments
- Analyze data (e.g. classroom assessments district benchmarks progress monitoring tools) to inform instruction
- Adjust instructional practices and provide targeted interventions within Tier 1 and Tier 2 supports
- Maintain accurate and timely records of student performance
Classroom Environment & Management
- Establish and maintain a safe respectful and inclusive classroom environment
- Implement effective classroom management practices aligned with school-wide expectations
- Promote positive behavior supports and social-emotional learning
- Foster a classroom culture that values effort collaboration and accountability
Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities
- Collaborate with grade-level teams special education staff ENL teachers and related service providers
- Participate actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) staff meetings and professional development
- Communicate regularly and professionally with families regarding student progress and needs
- Fulfill all professional responsibilities as outlined by the school and district
Compliance & Professional Standards
- Adhere to district policies contractual obligations and state and federal regulations
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with all student privacy laws (FERPA)
- Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal
