Material Handler 1st Shift

Position Summary & Objective

The Material Handler is responsible for loading unloading and moving materials with the plant yard and/or worksite.

Essential Functions Performed by the Position 

• Loads unload and moves materials throughout the plant yard and/or worksite.
• Reads work orders and/or follows verbal instructions.
• Empties chip bins for the machining department.
• Opens containers using steel cutters crowbar clawhammer etc.
• Conveys materials from storage or worksites to designated areas using fork truck hand truck or another device.
• Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials.
• Lifts heavy objects by using a power hoist.
• Assembles crates.
• Operates industrial truck or electric crane/hoist.

Qualifications :

Required Education and Experience

• A high school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous fork truck and overhead crane experience preferred.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Solid mechanical skills.  Must have mechanical ability to proficiently use cranes and other heavy tools and equipment that are normally required in daily job operations.
• Ability to use judgment to plan perform and make decisions as to the sequence of operations and processes within the limitations of established or standard methods and procedures.
• Ability to read and understand verbal and written instructions.
• Capable of using small machine and hand tools cranes and forklifts.
• Basic computer skills and the ability to use basic shop math.
• Ability to verbally communicate with team members and supervisors.
• Possess the physical strength and ability to safely handle heavy equipment and tools.
