Job Summary
Automotive Supply Chain/Component Localization Engineer
This role is focused on sourcing vehicle components and sub-assemblies from local vendors in a specific country or region to reduce costs comply with local content regulations (e.g. for CKD/SKD assembly) and build a domestic supply chain.
Key Responsibilities
- Vendor Development & Sourcing:
- Identify scout qualify and negotiate with new local suppliers for vehicle components (e.g. motors interior parts electrical harnesses).
- Manage the vendor qualification process and ensure suppliers meet the companys technical specifications and quality standards.
- Cost & Viability Analysis:
- Conduct in-depth analysis on the commercial viability of local sourcing versus importing aiming for maximum cost savings.
- Determine target pricing for locally manufactured parts.
- Prepare and submit localization calculations as required by government regulations.
- Quality & Compliance:
- Ensure local suppliers comply with automotive quality standards like IATF 16949 and use quality tools like APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) and PPAP (Production Part Approval Process).
- Follow up on the development and testing of initial local part samples and trial batches.
- Strategy & Roadmap:
- Develop a phased localization roadmap aligned with company project timelines and local regulatory requirements.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelors degree in Engineering (Mechanical Electrical Industrial or Production).
- Experience:
- Proven experience (typically 3 years) in localization supplier development procurement or supply chain management within the Automotive industry.
- Experience with CKD (Completely Knocked Down) projects is often preferred.
- Technical Proficiency:
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes for various auto components.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering documentation (e.g. CAD/CAE).
- Familiarity with quality management systems (ISO/EU standards APQP FMEA).
- Soft Skills: Strong negotiation financial acumen and project management skills.
