Substance Abuse and Safety Intervention Specialist
FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE:
- The Substance Abuse and Safety Intervention Specialist will provide strategic leadership in all areas of substance abuse prevention and intervention programs anti-bullying violence prevention and other safety-related issues for grades K-12. Specific duties range from limited direct student or parent contact for substance use assessment referral; to school staff consultation and training to overall program/curriculum development implementation and evaluation. The Substance Abuse and Safety Intervention Specialist will work in close partnership with the school district and community stakeholders.
- The salary is based on the North Carolina Licensure Salary Schedule.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direct responsibility for coordinating and planning all activities related to district implementation of drug prevention efforts
- Direct responsibility for coordinating and planning all activities related to district implementation of bullying mitigation efforts
- Serve as district liaison for the Its My Call/Its Our Call programs; as well as general drug violations
- Provide support services collaboration and guidance with school and community stakeholders that promotes understanding of prevention and mitigation strategies related to student drug use and/or impact of a parent/family members drug involvement
- Review district as well as school-wide assessment data to assist the design of school-wide interventions addressing substance use prevention and intervention supports
- Collaborate closely with Office of Social Emotional and Restorative Practices Office of Safety and Security and other departments as necessary
- Coordinate biennial NC Youth Risk Behavior Survey
- Coordination of Bully Prevention Month activities (month of October)
- Develops an effective monitoring and evaluation system which includes data collection and indicators to measure the effectiveness and impact of training and program development
- Prepares and maintains a variety of narrative and statistical reports records correspondence and files related to assigned services activities and operations
- Reads various publications and attends various workshops seminars and conferences to continuously upgrade professional knowledge
- Communicates and collaborates with administrators district personnel outside organizations and the school community to coordinate activities and programs and resolve issues and conflicts
- Adheres to laws policies procedures and ethical standards
- Participates in regularly scheduled departmental and other district meetings as required/requested
- Other related duties as assigned
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of Substance use disorders (required)
- Excellent communication skills including writing capabilities; ability to execute meetings calls and emails with professionalism courtesy and accuracy; and ability to make effective presentations (required)
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook Word Excel and PowerPoint and Google Drive applications; (required)
- Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently; ability to effectively allocate and prioritize time to several tasks to ensure completion (required)
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Masters degree in social work counseling psychology or education and/or extensive experience in substance use prevention and intervention (required)
- Possess credential as Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (preferred)
- Possess or be willing to obtain a credential as Certified Clinical Supervisor (preferred)
- Possess or obtain required licensure with the North Carolina Department of Instruction
- Experience working in or with the education system with substance use prevention and intervention efforts. (preferred)
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
- Hold a valid drivers license with a satisfactory driving record according to WS/FCS Policy and be properly insured. Possess the ability to travel between school office and community sites
