About This Job:
Q-Sourcing Limited trading as Q-Sourcing Servtec is a manpower management solutions firm operating in the East African Region in the countries of Uganda Kenya Tanzania Rwanda and South Sudan.
On behalf of our client we are looking for a competent skilled and experienced Stainless Steel Designer and Cost Estimator to work in Nairobi Kenya
Job Summary
To translate client requirements into precise fabrication-ready technical drawings and deliver accurate competitive and profitable cost estimates for stainless steel products including commercial kitchen equipment architectural railings industrial tanks and agro-processing machinerywhile minimizing material waste and ensuring smooth workshop execution.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Technical Design & Engineering
- Develop detailed 2D and 3D fabrication drawings using AutoCAD SolidWorks and/or sketch up.
- Prepare flat patterns and nesting layouts for laser and plasma cutting.
- Select appropriate stainless steel grades (SS 304 SS 201).
- Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.
2. Costing & Estimation
- Conduct accurate Material Take-Offs (MTOs).
- Calculate full project costs including materials consumables labor and overheads.
- Maintain supplier price databases.
- Prepare quotations in Kenyan Shillings (KSh).
3. Workshop Coordination & Quality Control
- Issue job cards and brief workshop teams.
- Conduct site visits and verify measurements.
- Inspect finished products against approved drawings.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 5 years experience with CAD software.
- Strong understanding of stainless steel fabrication processes.
- Familiarity with Kenyan fabrication standards.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Zero rework due to design errors.
- Quotation turnaround within 2448 hours.
- Sheet wastage maintained below 5%.
- Cost variance within 3% of quoted value.
