Mechanical and manufacturing engineer
Job Summary
Core Responsibilities
1. Multi physics Modelling & Simulation
- Lead CFD simulations (ANSYS Fluent) for:
- CO₂ injection into wet particulate concrete systems
- multiphase flow (gassolidliquid)
- transient mixing and dispersion inside rotating mixers
- residence time and flow uniformity analysis
- Lead structural and thermal FEA (ANSYS Mechanical) for:
- high-pressure CO₂ piping and manifolds
- injection nozzles and reactor housings
- fatigue from cyclic batching and pulsed injection
- retrofit mounts brackets and load-bearing interfaces
2. Multi scale Modelling & UDF Development (Python-Driven)
- Develop and maintain User-Defined Functions (UDFs) to:
- implement non-standard boundary conditions
- model pulsed or staged CO₂ injection
- incorporate reaction-informed proxies from chemistry
- Use Python to:
- automate parametric studies
- run optimization loops
- batch simulations across design variants
- extract and compare simulation outputs quantitatively
- Bridge micro-scale assumptions (reaction windows moisture sensitivity) with macro-scale system behaviour (flow stress pressure).
3. Prototype-Driven Mechanical Design & Iteration
- Translate validated simulations into:
- CAD models
- fabrication-ready drawings
- tolerances suitable for local manufacturing capabilities
- Rapidly iterate on:
- CO₂ injection lances and nozzles
- reactors and flow distributors
- mixer retrofit interfaces
- Collaborate closely with fabricators to:
- validate manufacturability
- select materials resistant to abrasion clogging and fatigue
- reduce cost without sacrificing performance
4. Experimental Validation & Model Closure
- Design and execute physical validation tests including:
- pressure and leak testing
- tracer-based flow validation
- residence time verification
- wear and fatigue assessment
- Diagnose discrepancies between:
- simulation results
- laboratory tests
- pilot-scale and plant-scale behaviour
- Update and correct simulation models based on experimental evidence.
5. Retrofit Readiness & Deployment Engineering
- Engineer systems for real-world plant deployment including:
- installation sequencing
- downtime minimization
- operator misuse tolerance
- access for maintenance and inspection
- Design within constraints of:
- fixed mixer geometries
- existing plant layouts
- safety and pressure standards
- Produce documentation to support:
- installation
- commissioning
- maintenance
- safety review
Requirements
Technical
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering Mechatronic or related field
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- ANSYS Fluent (CFD)
- ANSYS Mechanical (FEA)
- Proven ability to model:
- multiphase flow
- transient systems
- pressure-driven equipment
- fatigue and cyclic loading
- Proficiency in Python specifically for:
- ANSYS UDFs
- simulation automation
- parametric and optimization workflows
Engineering Fundamentals
- Strong grounding in:
- fluid mechanics
- heat transfer
- materials behaviour under pressure
- industrial piping and pressure systems
Highly Desirable (Strong Differentiators)
- Experience taking hardware from simulation through fabrication to live operation
- Prior work in:
- industrial equipment
- process or chemical engineering systems
- cement energy or materials plants
- Familiarity with:
- pressure vessel standards
- safety-critical design reviews
- validating simulations with experimental data
- Comfort working in resource-constrained fast-iteration environments
- Soft skills needed to maintain supply relations.
