The leadership team understands that early behavioural challenges can significantly affect learning and development if not addressed. The school provides strong pastoral support SEND provision and behaviour mentoring to support pupils with SEMH needs ASD ADHD attachment difficulties or other emotional and social challenges.
With increasing demand for targeted behavioural support across Nursery Reception and Key Stage 1 the school is seeking a skilled Behaviour Mentor to join its pastoral team.
The Behaviour Mentor will work with pupils experiencing difficulties with behaviour emotional regulation or social interaction. The role involves providing structured support in classrooms small group sessions and during unstructured periods such as playtime and lunchtimes.
The postholder will collaborate closely with teachers EYFS staff SENCO and parents to implement consistent behaviour strategies across the school and ensure children can access learning in a safe and supportive environment.
Deliver 1:1 behavioural and emotional support to pupils in Nursery Reception and KS1
Lead small group interventions targeting social skills self-regulation and emotional literacy
Support pupils during classroom activities transitions and unstructured periods
Assist pupils in managing behaviour and emotions during playtimes and lunchtimes
Implement and monitor individual behaviour support plans tracking outcomes
Employ restorative play-based and trauma-informed strategies
Model positive behaviour and emotional regulation for pupils
Observe assess and record pupil progress and outcomes
Work collaboratively with teachers SENCO EYFS staff and pastoral teams
Build strong professional relationships with parents carers and external agencies
Contribute to planning review meetings and multi-agency support discussions
Uphold safeguarding and child protection policies consistently
Promote a culture of inclusion empathy and mutual respect
The ideal candidate will be patient empathetic and emotionally resilient with a strong commitment to supporting young children. You will understand that challenging behaviour is often a form of communication and respond with consistency empathy and structured interventions.
You should demonstrate:
Experience in Primary Nursery or EYFS settings
Knowledge of SEND SEMH ADHD ASD and attachment-informed practice
Confidence implementing behaviour interventions and monitoring outcomes
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Reflective practice and proactive problem-solving
Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of pupils and staff
Relevant qualifications in education childcare psychology or youth work are desirable.
The school provides structured induction supervision and access to CPD in behaviour management SEMH SEND and early intervention. Behaviour Mentors are supported to progress into teaching SEN or pastoral leadership roles.
