Job Summary

A Statutory Audit Manager is a senior-level professional responsible for overseeing the end-to-end statutory audit process to ensure a companys financial statements are accurate and comply with legal and regulatory frameworks (like IFRS GAAP or Companies Act).

Job Description: Statutory Audit Manager 1. Role Objective

The Statutory Audit Manager leads a team of auditors to deliver high-quality audit engagements. You will serve as the primary bridge between the audit staff and the Partners ensuring that all reporting meets international standards and is delivered within tight regulatory deadlines.

2. Key Responsibilities
  • Engagement Management: Lead and manage the full audit lifecycle-from planning and risk assessment to final sign-off.

  • Technical Review: Review audit workpapers financial statements and disclosures to ensure they are free from material misstatement and compliant with relevant standards (e.g. International Standards on Auditing - ISA).

  • Team Leadership: Supervise mentor and coach a team of Assistant Managers and Audit Seniors. Perform resource allocation and workload management.

  • Risk & Compliance: Identify complex accounting issues or potential fraud and develop mitigation strategies. Ensure the firms audit methodology is strictly followed.

  • Client Relationship: Act as the main point of contact for clients handling technical queries and presenting audit findings to senior management.

  • Budget & Quality: Monitor engagement budgets ensuring recoverability (profitability) and maintaining a zero-defect quality standard for regulatory inspections.

3. Skills & Qualifications
Category Requirements
Education Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) ACCA or CPA.
Experience 5 8 years in Statutory Audit with at least 2 years in a managerial role (Big 4 experience is often preferred).
Technical Knowledge Deep expertise in IFRS ISA and local Companies Act. Experience with audit software (e.g. CaseWare Aura or Teammate).
Soft Skills Strong command of English (written and verbal) executive presence and the ability to work under high pressure during audit season.
4. Typical Daily Tasks
  • Conducting Final Review of financial statements before partner sign-off.

  • Resolving Audit Open Items by coordinating with the clients finance team.

  • Drafting the Management Letter (observations on internal control weaknesses).

  • Training junior staff on new accounting standard updates (e.g. changes in Lease accounting or Revenue recognition).
