General PurposeMichigan City High School is seeking a Head Varsity Football Coach for the 2026-2027 season. The Head Football Coach is a key individual within the athletic program and the community of Michigan City. The Head Coach is responsible for leadership development of culture strategic planning compliance promotion and fundraising within the football program.
Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities
- Directly responsible for all Michigan City HS Football program activities.
- Provides leadership to all coaching staff members while establishing the fundamental philosophy skills and techniques to be taught by the coaching staff.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and support coaches new to the profession.
- Commitment to positive sportsmanship character education and modeling ethical behavior.
- Design oversee and administrate in and off-season practices weightlifting/conditioning and summer workouts.
- Collaborate across grade levels to build a vertically aligned K12 football model that supports long-term student athlete development and program success by acting as an advisor to Barker and Krueger Middle Schools and our local Youth Football Program.
- Attendance at all practices and contests providing assistance guidance and safeguards for each participant. Ensure that athletes are supervised at all times.
- Maintain a system that monitors student academic performance and assists with college and career opportunities.
- Accountable for all equipment and uniform inventory/storage. Knowledge of proper equipment safety. Will be required to submit an annual update of inventory to the Athletic Department promptly after the season ends.
- Knowledge of and willingness to follow all IHSAA MCAS MCHS and MCHS Athletic Department policies and procedures.
- Attend all required Athletic Department Duneland Athletic Conference and IHSAA meetings.
- Provides documentation in regards to physicals; consent; rosters; awards; eligibility; emergency medical forms; and any other required information in the time frame set forth by the Athletic Department.
- Complete the IHSAA/NFHS coach certification program and ensure all coaching staff members are also compliant.
- Experience with film breakdown data and analytics using HUDL or a similar platform.
- Lead fundraising efforts for the football program.
- Communicate with the Athletic Director.
- Assumes duties which the Athletic Director and/or Principal deem necessary for the improvement of the program.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university; Masters degree preferred.
- Proven experience in coaching at the high school and/or collegiate level; head coaching experience preferred.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to provide effective leadership to student athletes while encouraging academic and athletic development.
- Proven ability to lead in a diverse community.
