Butterfly is Australias national charity for people affected by eating disorders and body image concerns. Working across the stepped system of care from awareness and prevention through to treatment and recovery support Butterfly holds a trusted and recognised role within the community with all of our work grounded in the wisdom of lived experience.
Since 2007 Butterfly Foundation has been a national leader in delivering specialised prevention and early intervention programs workshops presentations and resources that empower young people educators parents and community professionals to foster positive body image reduce the risk of body dissatisfaction and disordered eating and to identify and respond to early warning signs. Although service delivery has historically occurred predominantly in NSW and Victoria there is now an opportunity to expand Prevention Services in Western Australia.
This role will plan and coordinate prevention activities across the state building strong sector relationships promoting and supporting the adoption of Butterfly universal education programs coordinating delivering professional learning and community seminars and overseeing data collection and reporting.
About the Role
The Education Manager WA will:
Conduct a comprehensive needs assessment amongst educators and key stakeholders to understand current levels of awareness needs and gaps.
Build strong networks with schools the education and health sectors youth and mental health focused organisations ACCHOs and sports and community groups.
Take a strategic approach to driving awareness of and participation in flagship programs such as Butterfly BodyBright BodyKind Online Education and BodyKind August.
Identify and proactively address barriers to program uptake and implementation
Deliver professional development for educators youth professionals coaches and seminars for parents and carers.
Create or adapt evidence-based resources to enhance the early identification of body image concerns and eating disorders with WA specific referral pathways and cultural appropriateness.
Oversee data collection project reporting budget management and ensure all work is conducted in alignment with Butterflys evidence-based practice and quality standards.
The Education Manager will collaborate closely with the Director of Education Initiatives the Communications & Engagement Team and report to the Head of Prevention.
Key responsibilities and duties include:
Program Delivery
Co-ordinate and implement WA delivery of Butterflys prevention and early identification programs.
Co-ordinate and facilitate high quality professional development workshops and seminars to educators youth and community workers and parents (in-person and virtually).
Undertake required adaptions of content and delivery for the WA context while maintaining fidelity to the evidence-base.
Support the onboarding and ongoing engagement of schools youth settings and sporting clubs participating in Butterfly initiatives.
Stakeholder Engagement
Build and maintain strong relationships with education departments schools sporting and community organisations ACCHOs and peak bodies through proactive engagement including in-person visits newsletters and tailored presentations.
Curate and maintain high quality contacts within Butterflys CRM database ensuring data is accurate and complete to support ongoing engagement with stakeholders.
Establish and lead Stakeholder Reference Groups.
Seek opportunities and represent Butterfly at external events conferences and networking forums to build Butterflys profile and influence.
Project Management
Conduct comprehensive stakeholder mapping and needs assessments to understand current levels of knowledge and awareness and identify gaps to guide service delivery and engagement strategies.
Develop implement and monitor annual activity plans in line with funding agreements.
Manage allocated program budgets effectively monitoring expenditure and ensuring the efficient use of resources
Monitor evaluate and report on program reach quality and impact against KPIs.
Reporting and Compliance
Maintain accurate records data and reports for internal and external use.
Contribute to funding reports and evaluation outputs and impact statements.
Ensure compliance with Butterflys quality standards policies and safe practice guidelines.
Selection Criteria
To see the FULL Position Description at relevant professional experience in public health health promotion education health sciences psychology or related discipline.
Demonstrated experience in planning implementing and evaluating health promotion or community education programs.
Knowledge of evidence-based approaches to body image education and eating disorder prevention.
Demonstrated experience in project management
Ability to work effectively as part of a small team with capacity to manage activities independently
Proven experience delivering engaging training and workshops to diverse audiences and adapting content and delivery style as needed.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills including group facilitation and presentation.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships across sectors.
Understanding of WA education systems and health community and cultural networks for young people.
Ability to collect analyse and interpret quantitative and qualitative data
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic digital communication tools.
Current drivers licence access to a reliable vehicle and willingness to travel within WA. Occasional interstate travel may be required to connect with Butterfly colleagues in Sydney or Melbourne.
