The Pension Benefit section of Insurance Services Claims Administration is looking for you!


As a member of the Pension Benefit Specialists section you will manage a caseload of claims involving permanent disability or fatality benefits. Our top candidate will help the department achieve the overall agency mission by providing timely and appropriate benefits to those who cannot return to work.


The Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) is a diverse state agency dedicated to the safety health and security of Washingtons workers. We help employers meet safety and health standards and inspect workplaces when alerted to hazards. As administrators of the states workers compensation system we are similar to a large insurance company providing medical and limited wage-replacement coverage to workers who suffer job-related injuries and illness. Our rules and enforcement programs also help ensure workers are paid what they are owed that childrens and teens work hours are limited and that consumers are protected from unsound business practices.


Insurance Services is the largest division within the agency and administers one of the premier workers compensation organizations in the nation serving over 3.8 million employees working for 260000 employers.


Duties

Some of what youll do:

  • Establish new pensions for claimants and/or their beneficiaries.
  • Calculate benefit entitlements and make appropriate adjustments to the claimant or their eligible beneficiaries.
  • Adjust and offset ongoing benefits when a pensioner receives benefits from both the Social Security Administration and the Department of Labor & Industries.
  • Participate in quality assurance reviews to ensure appropriate benefits are paid to recipients.
  • Provide information and respond to customers about their benefits how the benefits were calculated what laws or procedures support the decisions and how our process works.
  • Suspend benefits when circumstances are warranted.
  • Collaborate with other adjudicators to assist with claim progression and to take action on claims.
  • Reinstatement of benefits when appropriate

Qualifications

Required:


Successful completion of the Department of Labor and Industries Workers Compensation Adjudicator 2 Apprenticeship program.

AND

Six months of experience as a Workers Compensation Adjudicator 2.


OR


Bachelors degree

AND

Two years of experience in adjudicating workers or crime victims compensation insurance claims or adjudication of time loss payments.


OR


Equivalent education/experience.


AND

The ability to take action to learn and grow.

The ability to take action to meet the needs of others.


**Additional experience working with insurance claims claims/insurance adjusting claims investigations disability management claims risk management/loss control medical billing medical insurance paralegal personal injury services or paramedical occupations will substitute year for year for required education.**


Desired:

Mathematical aptitude to include basic algebra and accounting skills.


Advanced ability to research analyze facts and apply rules and regulations contained in federal law state law and department procedures


Presentation and communication skills with the ability to provide testimony in a legal setting in support of departments position decision and calculations of benefit.
