Job Summary

SENIOR DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT

ABOUT THE WHOLE CHILD

The Whole Child (TWC) is a multi-site health and human services 501(c)(3) organization based in east Los Angeles County taking a comprehensive approach to serving children and families through holistic programming that includes mental health housing parenting and nutrition services. TWC primarily serves the southeastern region of Los Angeles County and has expanded into the San Gabriel Valley and Metro Los Angeles in recent years. In this time TWC successfully piloted the first mental health program of its kind in the county addressing early-onset schizophrenia and psychosis among response to housing being one of the countys most pressing challenges TWC opened its first shelter for unhoused families in 2019 and its first Family Access Center in 2022. Most recently TWC has advanced development of a multi-use project that will deliver emergency shelter permanent supportive housing and homeownership opportunities for families experiencing housing insecurity across Los Angeles County. Through its dedication to vulnerable populations TWC has changed lives and created brighter futures for thousands in the communities it serves.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Senior Director of Development (Director) will partner with the CEO to create and implement a comprehensive vision strategy and plan for fund development. Reporting directly to the CEO the Director will manage a Development Specialist and Director of Grants and work closely with the Director of Communications and Community Engagement who oversees public relations and marketing functions. The successful candidate will build relationships across political corporate foundation business and nonprofit sectors to promote TWC and its programs and strengthen a broad constituency of support. As a chief spokesperson for the organization the Director will represent TWC with both internal and external audiences. This role requires the ability to thrive in a balanced culture that values programmatic impact best business practices fiscal accountability and institutional effectiveness. The CEO seeks an innovative and accomplished partner who can inspire the Board and volunteers to achieve greater success. The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge of the Los Angeles philanthropic landscape strong intellectual and interpersonal skills and a collaborative persuasive and accountable leadership style.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Executive Leadership

  • Partner with the CEO Board of Directors and fundraising staff to lead development strategy and guide the organizations overall fund development direction.
  • Lead development team meetings and provide regular updates to the CEO and Board of Directors.
  • Ensure all philanthropy and fund development efforts align with the organizations mission vision values and strategic plans.
  • Play a leadership role in planning and executing the annual gala with an emphasis on securingnew support.

Fund Development & Revenue Strategy

  • Lead and execute a comprehensive fund development strategy that builds a sustainable diversified revenue base including a strong annual giving program and a balanced mix of individual foundation corporate and planned giving sources.
  • Drive donor growth and engagement through effective prospecting cultivation solicitation and stewardship of donors and partners including annual major and five- six- and seven-figure supporters.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and staff to support the development and cultivation of a strong engaged Board of Directors.
  • Assist the Board in defining fundraising expectations and accountabilities for Board members and volunteers and support regular evaluation of performance.

Administrative and Organizational Development

  • Oversee the maintenance and integrity of donor and prospect records gift processing systems and development reporting.
  • Ensuretimely and effective acknowledgment stewardship and recognition processes including feedback mechanisms and required tracking systems.

QUALIFICATIONS

Professional Experience & Expertise

  • Minimum of five (5) years of major-gift fundraising experience including direct engagement with Boards of Directors.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local funding sources and a proven ability to build strong relationships with donors funders and community leaders.
  • Successfultrack record of growing an annual fund and securing new and increased major gifts.
  • Strategic approach to fund development with substantial experience cultivatingsoliciting and managing donor relationships.
  • Proven measurable success in donor segmentation prospect research and cultivation strategies.

Leadership Management & Organizational Skills

  • Demonstrated leadership grounded in integrity vision and sound judgment with the ability to plan strategically set clear goals and drive initiatives through completion.
  • Strong management organizational and financial acumen with the ability to manage multiple priorities andallocate limited resources effectively.
  • Collaborative and adaptable professional who can work independently and as part of a team whileremaining decisive resourceful and results-oriented.

Communication & Interpersonal Skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage and earn the respect of diverse and evolving constituencies.
  • Proven effectiveness as a communicator; public speaking experience.

Personal Attributes & Work Style

  • Demonstrated commitment to TWCs mission with the credibility confidence and judgment to advance initiatives and inspire support.
  • Highly organized proactive and collaborative professional with strong creative and conceptual skills and a flexible inclusive and fair-minded approach to leadership.

Education Training & Licensure

  • Bachelors degree ; masters degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience.
  • Valid California drivers license and automobile liability insurance.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The Whole Child is offering a salary of $150000 annually. This is a full-time hybrid positionlocatedin Whittier CA. Benefits include Medical Dental RetirementLifeand a generous time off first three months are expected to be full time in person to build rapport with the team; the position will be hybrid henceforth.
