Role Overview
This is a key leadership position based at a major Childrens Home and Observation Home. The role combines high-level program management and coordination with direct mental health interventions and counselling for children and youth residing in a Child Care Institution.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong grounding in child psychology an understanding of trauma-informed care within institutional settings and the ability to manage diverse stakeholders including government authorities and external partners.
Key Responsibilities
1. Centre Management & Institutional Coordination
- Serve as the primary point of contact at the assigned Childrens Home and Observation Home.
- Oversee the day-to-day implementation of all programs within the institution.
- Coordinate closely with institutional staff including the Superintendent Probation Officers caretakers and teachers.
- Ensure all interventions align with the JJ Act CWC/JJB processes and institutional protocols.
- Support the planning and execution of workshops events and group programs.
2. Senior Counselling & Mental Health Support
- Supervise junior counsellors interns and visiting mental health professionals through case discussions.
- Review counselling reports before they are submitted to the JJB/CWC.
- Provide direct counselling interventions to high-risk and high-need youth.
- Facilitate therapeutic interventions reflective circles and group sessions using experiential or arts-based methods.
- Offer crisis intervention and emotional support during critical incidents.
3. Stakeholder Engagement & External Coordination
- Liaise with Child Welfare Committees (CWC) Juvenile Justice Boards (JJB) and allied government departments.
- Conduct weekly circles with probation officers and children.
- Provide periodic training for institution staff on trauma-informed care child behaviour and positive discipline.
- Coordinate with external partners including psychiatrists hospitals and other NGOs.
4. Monitoring Reporting & Resource Management
- Track outcomes related to childrens mental health behaviour change and participation.
- Prepare annual reports programmatic narratives and documentation for donors.
- Manage and monitor the allocated center-level program budget.
- Support donor visits and share impact stories in alignment with child protection policies.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelors or Masters degree in Psychology Masters in Management or Masters in Arts-Based Therapy.
- Experience: Minimum 45 years of relevant experience with a preference for 23 years specifically in child care institutions or juvenile justice settings.
- Language: Proficiency in English and Hindi is required; proficiency in Marathi is highly preferred.
- Preferred Skills: Experience working with government institutions or in managerial/supervisory roles is a significant advantage.
