As a Grid Protection intern you will be supporting the development of relay settings to protect electrical systems of projects on high-voltage substations at voltages from 12kV to 500kV with the goal of providing excellent quality work for our client.

This is a full-time 10-week internship that begins in early June2026. Work may be done remotely from any U.S. location or hybrid from our Reston VA office. At this time we are unable to provide relocationnorhousing assistance for this internship. Pay is expected to be $23/hour for an undergraduate intern and $28/hourfor a graduate intern.

AsGrid Protection Engineering Intern you will:

  • Assistengineers in short circuit model review

  • Assistengineers in the development of calculation documentation todeterminerelay protection set points

  • Assistengineers in the development of NERC PRC compliance documentation

  • Troubleshoot field questions from clients on protection related issues

  • Review relay logic design foraccurateimplementation

  • Configure settings files for SEL protective relays

  • Discuss within a team for continuous improvement opportunities

Interns may or should have:

  • The ability to work with and understand technical concepts while also being able to communicate them to non-technical personnel

  • Basic knowledge of the electric grid

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Strong skillsand capabilities in Microsoft Office (specifically Word and Excel)

Basic Qualifications:

  • By start date a minimum of 30 completed college-level credit hours ispreferably in Electrical Engineering

  • Candidate must be a US citizenresidein the authorized towork in the U.S. and all work must be performed in the contract requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A completed bachelors degree

  • Enrollment verification or graduate coursework complete preferably in Electrical Engineering

  • Knowledge of power systems

  • Advanced user of Microsoft products specifically Word and Excel

  • System modelling or short circuit software experience (CAPE CYME ASPEN ETAP)

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position including but not limited to relevant work experience skills certifications and competencies that align to the specified role geographic location education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.

The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:

$34564.00 - $71098.00
