Your Role

An exciting role exists to join the team at Catholic Education Office in the position of Cultural Safety Officer to commence as soon as possible until 17 January 2027. This is a full-time contract position for 38 hours per week.

The role presents an opportunity to drive the integration of the Universal Principle of Cultural Safety within the Queensland Child Safe Standards across CEDR schools and colleges.

The position requires expertise in cultural safety practices strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop resources deliver training and guide staff in building respectful partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

The successful applicant will bring excellent communication skills a collaborative approach and a commitment to fostering culturally safe environments through continuous improvement and ethical engagement.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provide expert guidance to all CEDR staff schools and colleges on integrating the Universal Principle of Cultural Safety within the Queensland Child Safe Standards implementation.
  • Collaborate and guide CEDR staff schools and colleges in proactively assessing and enhancing cultural safety processes and practices.
  • Develop and share practical resources and tools (e.g. checklists reflection guides) to support the consistent application of Cultural Safety across the Qld Child Safe standards within CEDR.
  • Monitor and evaluate progress to meet the Universal Principle of Cultural Safety providing feedback and recommendations to enhance system-wide practices to deliver strong cultural safety outcomes through continual improvement.
  • Build staff capability by delivering professional learning training and mentoring to ensure all in Catholic Education learn apply and sustain culturally safe practices.
  • Support CEDR staff schools and colleges in building and maintaining respectful relationships and partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families communities and organisations to ensure First Nations voices inform cultural safety within CEDR settings.
  • Act as a point of contact for inquiries related to cultural safety and provide guidance to staff and school leaders on the consistent interpretation and application of the Universal Principle of Cultural Safety as required by the Child Safe Standards.
  • Lead the Cultural Safety communication strategy ensuring all changes successes and key resources are effectively promoted and accessible to the entire CEDR community.
  • Establish a framework for ethical collaboration and support for CEDR First Nations staff members and community ensuring that cultural safety successfully amplifies their expertise and voices.

Mandatory Requirements

  • A current valid Blue Card under the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000 (WWC Act) and valid Suitability Notice is a requirement of the position.
