TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: New teachers 195 days; returning teachers 190 days with benefits provided according to the Teachers Negotiated Agreement.

Position Summary

The English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher serves as an instructional partner and advocate for multilingual learners delivering high-quality language-focused instruction that accelerates English language development while ensuring meaningful access to grade-level content.

This role blends Tier 1 push-in support with Tier 2 targeted small-group or pull-out instruction emphasizing collaboration with classroom teachers alignment to WIDA standards and the use of research-based instructional practices. The ELL Teacher plays a critical role in building students academic language literacy skills and confidence as learners and community members.

Key Responsibilities

Tier 1 Instructional Support (Push-In)

  • Collaborate with general education teachers to co-plan and deliver language supports aligned to Oklahoma Academic Standards and grade-level content
  • Provide in-class scaffolding to support listening speaking reading and writing across content areas
  • Model and reinforce effective instructional strategies for multilingual learners including language objectives sentence frames structured academic talk and visual supports
  • Use WIDA Can Do Descriptors and English Language Development (ELD) standards to differentiate instruction based on English proficiency levels
  • Support teachers in adapting lessons assessments and instructional materials to ensure equitable access for English learners
  • Promote inclusive classroom environments that affirm linguistic and cultural diversity

Tier 2 Instructional Support (Pull-Out & Small Group)

  • Design and deliver targeted small-group or pull-out instruction based on WIDA data MAP Growth classroom assessments and progress-monitoring tools
  • Provide explicit instruction in academic vocabulary grammar phonological awareness reading comprehension and writing structures as appropriate
  • Implement evidence-based intervention strategies for students requiring additional language development support
  • Monitor student progress toward English proficiency goals and adjust intervention plans accordingly
  • Maintain documentation related to services progress monitoring and instructional outcomes

Collaboration Coaching & Professional Practice

  • Actively engage in Santa Fe Souths coaching model by seeking receiving and implementing feedback
  • Collaborate with content teams classroom teachers and instructional leaders to align language instruction to core curricula
  • Use data to inform instructional decisions and advocate for student needs
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and language development
  • Support campus-wide initiatives and contribute to a positive collaborative school culture

Qualifications

Required:

  • Valid Oklahoma teaching certificate or eligibility/willingness to seek certification
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution
  • Commitment to Santa Fe Souths mission and the students and communities we serve

Preferred:

  • ESL/ELL certification or endorsement
  • Experience teaching or supporting multilingual learners in elementary settings
  • Familiarity with WIDA standards ACCESS assessments and screening tools
  • Experience as a second language learner
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of second language acquisition across listening speaking reading and writing domains
  • Ability to deliver effective Tier 1 push-in support and Tier 2 targeted interventions
  • Skill in scaffolding instruction using visual supports sentence frames structured academic talk and explicit vocabulary instruction
  • Proficiency in using language proficiency data to plan differentiate and monitor instruction
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills across diverse linguistic and cultural contexts
  • Knowledge of culturally responsive and inclusive instructional practices
  • Strong organizational skills to manage schedules documentation and compliance requirements
