Job Summary
To perform scientific research specifically research activities related to X-ray crystallography and bioinformatic analysis of proteins and to report results ready for publication and/or use for grant applications as appropriate.
Organizational Status
Reports to Prof Katherine Ryan Principal Investigator Department of Chemistry.
Work Performed
Explores the application and dissemination of research findings focused on X-ray crystallography and bioinformatic analysis of proteins
Develops data collection and related protocols required and teaches protocols to junior scientists in the laboratory.
Analyses data collected to gain further insight and reproducibility of findings
Prepares writes and edits reports and the writing of materials for presentation and final publication including any graphs or tables as appropriate;
Prepares jointly with supervisor manuscripts and grants for submission to scientific journals for publication and to grant funding agencies respectively
Contributes to the development of all research related documentation.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Makes decision relating to the integrity of the data and accuracy of data reporting for use in publication and grant applications. Errors in judgement or decisions could negative impact on the faculty members research program and by extension the department at UBC.
Supervision Received
Works under general direction with regular Zoom meetings. Work is reviewed only against achievement of project objectives and deliverables.
Supervision Given
May oversee students as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of a university degree in a relevant discipline or technical program and a minimum four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Some positions may require a graduate degree.

Preferred Qualifications
PhD in Physics or Chemistry.
Experience with X-ray crystallography and bioinformatic analysis of proteins.
Superior technical writing skills for different audiences and publication.
Good interpersonal skills and work habits such as organization and attention to detail are required.
