About the role:

Working collaboratively with the Senior Hostels Officer and colleagues to deliver an effective and efficient cleaning re-servicing access and maintenance service within the Councils designated stage one temporary accommodation (hostels). The role also involves ensuring residents comply with their license conditions and promptly reporting any potential breaches.

Key Responsibilities:

To re-service vacant rooms and return them to a lettable condition as soon as possible; to admit customers to vacant rooms during working hours

To carry out a full programme of cleaning security and safety checks waste clearance etc. for all hostel buildings on a rotating basis as directed by the Senior Hostels Officer; to carry out minor repairs such as replacing lightbulbs unblocking sinks etc.

To deal with all identified hazards spillages graffiti abandoned items and other detritus through prompt and hygienic disposal; to carry out all washing de-frosting mopping sweeping and other tasks needed to maintain all properties in a clean and safe condition; to maintain a full log of cleaning repairs and other activities

To report possible breaches of license conditions to the Senior Hostels Officer communicate with residents about required standards of behaviour and support the Senior Hostels Officer to enforce license conditions and restrictions regarding storage of belongings allowing access visitors etc.; to maintain required signage and dispose promptly of all unauthorised and out-of-date items

To deal effectively with enquiries from residents and escalate any concerns to the Senior Hostels Officer or Temporary Accommodation Contracts Manager as appropriate; to report abandonments and breaches to the Senior Hostels Officer so that appropriate action can be taken.

To liaise effectively with contractors utility companies fire service officers and others to ensure access is granted to all properties as appropriate and standard checks are carried out and recorded

To maintain adequate supplies of cleaning materials infestation products and all other supplies needed to maintain the buildings in an acceptable condition

To distribute items of post to residents as required; to move furniture and other items between units where needed; to ensure standby rooms are available on a daily basis to the service and are in a fit condition to be re-occupied

Qualifications and Requirements:

To be considered for this position you should meet the following requirements:

Communicate effectively with internal and / or external customers/ service users. Act as point of contact for the service. Provide information and resolve problems within scope of role escalating to line manager as required

Create documents reports correspondence etc. from the information provided using standard formats and software.

Organise and maintain records and documents using the appropriate council process / system.

Carry out all duties and responsibilities with reasonable care for the health and safety of self and others and report any potential hazards or unsafe practices to line manager.

Act in accordance with all policies and procedures which apply to the job and understand the reasons for this.

Relevant experience and skills

Experience of dealing with customers/residents/stakeholders

Ability to work across multiple sites ensuring cleaning and maintenance standards are maintained in every building

Ability to prioritise so that urgent tasks are completed ahead of routine tasks Ability to communicate effectively with hostel residents and contractors to ensure the smooth running of all hostel buildings.

Commitment to high standards of cleanliness and hygiene to ensure that hostel residents live in a safe and clean environment

Ability to re-service vacated units to tight deadlines assessing quickly whether any substantive repairs are needed and ensuring wherever possible that rooms are aired cleaned and returned to a lettable condition within 48 hours of becoming void

Indicative Qualifications

5 GCSEs or equivalent qualifications including Maths and English
