The Team
The Heritage Branch is a branch of 17 dedicated to the recognition conservation and celebration of tangible and intangible heritage values across British Columbia. Through managing provincial heritage properties and collections supporting community-led heritage initiatives and overseeing fossil management and geographical naming programs the branch ensures that BCs diverse heritage is protected and made accessible to the public. With a focus on community engagement policy development and stewardship the Heritage Branch plays a vital role in safeguarding the provinces cultural legacy for future generations.

The Role
As the Heritage Stewardship Officer Register and Collections youll play a key role in safeguarding B.C.s heritage by supporting the stewardship of artifact collections across Provincial Heritage Properties. Reporting to the Manager of Historic Places and Stewardship you will oversee the general management of collections contribute to policy development maintain the provincial collections database and lead key collections initiatives. You will also support the BC Register of Historic Places and help ensure the accuracy and integrity of historic site information used across the province.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in a field related to Heritage Conservation Cultural Resource Management Museum Management History Anthropology or Architectural History and one (1) year *related experience; or

  • A combination of education and *related experience may be considered.

*Related experience must include:

  • Experience in managing complex projects.

  • Experience working with spatial analysis software and with relational database software.

  • Experience working with historic site or other cultural resource information management.

  • Experience in museum or historic site curatorial and/or collections management.

Preference may be given to candidates who also have experience with one or more the following:

  • Experience in the field of heritage conservation.

  • Experience with the BC Register of Historic Places.

  • Experience with the BC Heritage Properties collections register system.

  • Experience leading working groups negotiations and resolution of complex/controversial issues.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home two (2) days per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
