About the role:

The Tax Analyst is part of the Financial Accounting & Reporting team at Water Corporation. You will be part of the team that is responsible for the preparation of the Corporations overall financial reporting deliverables which includes taxation services. We are seeking an experienced taxation professional who will report to the Lead Tax in the Financial Accounting and Reporting team which will be based in the Head Office located in Leederville. As a centre of expertise in taxation matters you will play a critical role in ensuring the Corporation meets all taxation compliance obligations in a timely and accurate manner and provide strategic tax advice to support decision-making.

What the role will be responsible for but not limited to:

Taxation Compliance and Reporting

  • Prepare and lodge statutory tax returns including Monthly Payroll tax Monthly Business Activity Statements (BAS) Annual income tax and Annual Fringe Benefits Tax submissions.
  • Support the preparation of monthly half-yearly and full-year tax effect accounting impact.
  • Maintain accurate tax records and assist with tax balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Analyse accounting data to identify extract and verify relevant tax information.
  • Respond to routine tax authority and audit enquiries with accuracy and professionalism.

Advisory and Strategic Support

  • Provide technical and strategic taxation advice as a trusted expert across the organisation
  • Assist business units with the implementation of taxation policies and procedures
  • Prepare and review taxation policies procedures and guidelines to meet current business requirements
  • Undertake research on taxation matters and stay abreast of changes in tax law
  • Communicate the implications of new tax requirements to internal stakeholders
  • Support the implementation of tax controls and governance frameworks

Key skills and experience:

  • Degree qualified
  • Part or fully qualified CA or CPA.
  • Minimum two years experience in a mid-tier/big four public practice firm
  • Proficiency in SAP ERP system is desirable
  • Exposure to tax return preparation systems such as CCH Integrator & Thomson Reuters Onesource is desirable
  • Experience in a real estate infrastructure/project-based industry exposure is desirable
  • Knowledge of and understanding of trends developments and relevant tax legislation impacting on commercialised government trading enterprises is desirable

  • Experience in first level research of tax matters
  • Strong tax technical knowledge and commercial insight
  • Experience interpreting legislation case law and ATO guidance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex tax concepts clearly to diverse audiences
  • A proactive approach to identifying tax issues and delivering solutions
  • Professionalism integrity and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Intermediate Excel skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member with a collaborative mindset
