Lancashire County Council is committed to creating a safe healthy environment for our employees service users and communities. Were looking for a highly skilled Senior Health and Safety Officer (Fire Safety) to take the lead on fire safety across the county council including schools.

This is a unique opportunity to work at the heart of strategic operations influencing fire safety arrangement and shaping best practice across diverse services. Youll act as the designated contact for fire safety conduct statutory fire risk assessments and manage the councils portable firefighting equipment contract ensuring compliance and safeguarding our workforce.

What Youll Do;

  • Provide expert health and safety advice with a focus on fire safety across all council services and schools.
  • Act as the designated contact for fire safety matters.
  • Lead on fire risk assessments reviews and fire safety and fire risk assessment audits for council services and schools.
  • Carry out site visits to offer on-site expert advice and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Develop and deliver bespoke fire safety training as required.
  • Liaise with enforcement agencies and other interested parties including Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service the Health and Safety Executive Historic England Duchy of Lancashire on fire safety matters affecting LCC employees and premises.
  • Review fire safety related legislation and guidance ensure its practical application across all county council services and schools.
  • Manage the portable firefighting equipment contract and liaise with providers and users.
  • Oversee temporary health and safety resources allocated to support fire safety work.
  • Work autonomously managing priorities and contributing to long-term planning.

What Were Looking For;

  • NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent health and safety qualification)
  • IRCA auditing certification.
  • Level 4 Diploma/Certificate in fire safety fire engineering or operations
  • Substantial experience applying health and safety and fire safety legislation across diverse services including schools.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence at all levels.
  • A proactive mindset with the ability to challenge practices and drive improvement.
