Job Summary
MICDS is accepting applications for a Head Varsity Football Coach. Applicants must meet all Missouri State High School Athletic Association coaching requirements. The ideal candidate will have prior coaching or playing experience enthusiasm for leading student athletes and strong athletic and personal references.
Under the general director of the Director of Athletics the Head Varsity Football Coach is responsible for supervising advising and coordinating all activities related to the football program in grades seven through twelve. Exercises leadership management and oversight to appropriately involve Assistant Coaches in the accomplishment of the Schools mission to engender academic rigor individual achievement and community spirit. Although not a requirement we hope that the applicant for this role pairs the assignment with a teaching position offered to be a daily presence on our campus.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for supervising coordinating and supporting staff of Upper or Middle School Assistant Coaches (when program has assistants) in conjunction with the Director of Athletics.
- Responsible for the instruction of MICDS students/athletes in the fundamental skills strategies and physical training necessary to meet the goals of both the MICDS Mission statement and MICDS Athletic Goals and Objectives.
- Responsible for holding an annual meeting of players and parents to cover topics included in the athletic department pre-season meeting checklist.
- Accepts and recognizes that our athletic programs have a considerable component of public exposure and a significant influence on the entire school community. These inherent pressures are a considerable responsibility but must be kept as secondary to the objectives of good sportsmanship and life-long learning and emotional health for students.
- Maintains discipline and works to increase morale and cooperation within the school athletic program and school community.
- Supervises practices games and team trips.
- Updates knowledge of technical aspects of the assigned sport and willingness to continue to learn and examine new ideas pertinent to the assigned sport or coaching in general.
- Establishes a policy with parents and players to address issues or concerns and updates the athletic director frequently during season about any issues concerns or highlights.
- Provides instruction that will lead to the formulation of moral values strong work ethic responsibility teamwork sportsmanship self-discipline leadership and self-confidence.
- Works with athletic director in scheduling and requirements for tournaments and special sports events.
- Establishes announces maintains and submits team records statistics and requirements for lettering.
- Supports the athletic program in the summer supervising training and practice sessions.
- Maintains inventory of uniform/equipment issued.
- Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the Schools discretion.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree preferred.
- Proven ability to organize and supervise a sports program/team.
- Previous coaching experience in assigned sport.
- Has knowledge of MSHSAA Metro League and other affiliated league policies and regulations.
- A valid First Aid Certificate from the American Red Cross including CPR training.
- Good role model.
- Excellent verbal communications skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills.
