The Recreation Therapy student is responsible for providing purposeful intervention using the therapeutic recreation process to improve quality of life for residents of the Home in accordance with all applicable policies procedures standards guidelines and regulations.
Plan implement and evaluate individual and group programs.
Provide assistance or adaptations required to facilitate participation in activities.
Function as a member of an interdisciplinary health care team.
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with employees residents families community groups associations institutions and others.
Maintain a safe environment for activities.
Support the activities of Residents Council and volunteers.
Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
Complete documentation as required.
Refer to the Residents Bill of Rights according to the MOHLTC.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Must be a registered full-time post-secondary student during the preceding academic year and be returning to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year.
Preference given to individuals currently enrolled in therapeutic recreation recreation and leisure program or related fields.
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Good leadership and organizational skills.
Experience in a long-term care setting or other health related field preferred
Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening that is less than six (6) months old at time of hire.
Anticipated length: May - August
Hours per week may fluctuate. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
