The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention protection and preparation as well as the care custody and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody healthcare and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work

The Digital Communications Specialist is a key member of the team charged with planning creating scheduling and assessing content across social media platforms the agencys public-facing website and its intranet.


The job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

- Is responsible for the day-to-day creating coordinating and monitoring of all social media content crafted to successfully educate inform and engage stakeholders about corrections issues and the NCDAC mission.

- Collaborates with staff across divisions to plan create monitor and assess the effectiveness of social media public website and intranet content that highlights varied aspects of NCDACs mission.

- Creates content (i.e. writing blogs creating reels/videos assisting with photography and video production etc.) that enhances social media and public-facing website content.

- Creates and monitors intranet content to enhance agency-wide staff collaboration and project planning.

- Assists content coordinators and agency subject matter experts on best practices for digital delivery of information.

- Assists with promotional materials and communications campaigns to support agency events marketing and recruitment efforts community engagement and public education about corrections and NCDAC mission.

- Assists with crisis communications efforts and may be assigned other duties at the discretion of the Communications Director such as writing and distributing news releases content for collateral materials such as brochures and other tasks.

This position works independently and must effectively collaborate often with communications team members and internal stakeholders.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade Range: $48222.00 - $84388.00 Annually

Management Preferences:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Attention to detail
  • Experience creating a variety of digital content for social media and websites
  • Understanding of best practices for social media content development
  • Familiarity with social media management trend tracking and analytics tools;
  • Familiarity with the technology associated with web design and content creation

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

      Bachelors degree in communications public relations public affairs media journalism English or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in communications public relations or publicity work
