Project Summary
The Metrics Analyst (Strategic Communications) supports the National Science Foundation (NSF) Office of Legislative and Public Affairs (OLPA) by analyzing communications performance data to inform strategic messaging digital engagement and outreach effectiveness. This role focuses on evaluating science-focused communications and using data-driven insights to strengthen outreach to policymakers research communities media and the public.
The position supports a federal government contract and works closely with communications digital and multimedia teams to ensure analytics and performance measures guide campaign planning execution and refinement.
Role Summary
The Metrics Analyst provides analytical and strategic support for NSF communications by collecting analyzing and interpreting performance data across digital platforms campaigns and outreach activities. The role translates complex analytics into clear actionable insights for leadership and communications staff supporting continuous improvement of science and research-related messaging.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and support communication strategies and products aligned with NSFs mission and national priorities.
- Assist in creating audience-specific communication and engagement plans.
- Support integrated strategies that coordinate written digital and multimedia communications.
- Collect track and analyze performance data related to events web campaigns social media engagement press coverage and outreach activities.
- Evaluate communication plans campaigns and products using audience feedback and performance metrics.
- Analyze engagement and sentiment among policymakers Congress scientific and education communities media industry and the general public.
- Prepare reports dashboards visualizations and written analyses summarizing key performance indicators (KPIs) trends and insights.
- Provide program-level analytics support to track campaign and project status.
- Analyze digital engagement policies processes and procedures recommending performance measurement goals and best practices.
- Collaborate with writers editors and digital media staff to ensure metrics inform content development and campaign design.
- Maintain awareness of best practices in digital analytics media monitoring and communications evaluation.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in communications analytics performance measurement or strategic communications.
- Demonstrated experience evaluating and refining communications campaigns using data-driven approaches.
- Strong analytical reporting and presentation skills.
- Ability to synthesize complex data into clear actionable insights.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting science communications research dissemination or data-driven policy initiatives.
- Familiarity with analyzing engagement related to scientific or technical audiences.
- Proven ability to translate complex analytics into executive-level insights and recommendations.
Work Location and Schedule
- Place of Performance: Primarily on-site at NSF Headquarters in Alexandria VA.
- Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. 5:00 p.m.
- Limited telework may be permitted with approval from the Contracting Officers Representative (COR).
Security Requirement
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
