Description of Work

This position is located at Western Correctional Center for Women Black Mountain NC. Western Correctional is a minimum custody prison housing female offenders. Western Correctional serves at the hub for healthcare for the female offender population. The facility is designed to house a maximum capacity of 366 offenders.


Employees in this class performs professional nursing work at the full-performance level providing direct patient care to individuals with varied health problems. Employees in this class serve as a lead nurse and typically work independently with other healthcare professionals. Work includes conducting nursing assessments; developing implementing and evaluating treatment plans; and providing patient care and education through case management. There is a greater emphasis in independent practice and advanced clinical knowledge/skills. Employees in this class administer medications and treatments as directed by a physician. Employees in this class are responsible for appropriate treatment and medical documentation and may assist the nursing supervisor by directly supervising licensed and unlicensed assigned nursing staff. Performs other related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Nurse Supervisor.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

NOW ELIGIBLE FOR A $7500 SIGN-ON BONUS.
To be eligible for a sign-on bonus the candidate must not have worked as a probationary permanent or time-limited employee in the last 12 months as an employee subject to the State Human Resources Act.

Salary Range $ 59372 - $ 98557

The Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following documented skills are preferred:

  • Previous Rotation/Supervisor responsibilities.
  • History of Clinical responsibilities covering the whole spectrum of assessment and intervention.
  • Assisting a physician carrying out orders planning implementing and evaluating nursing care.
  • Responding to emergencies.
  • Facilitating mental and dental healthcare.
  • Preparing medication for administration and administering medications.
  • Monitoring for communicable diseases.
  • Counseling form compliance with diet medications and treatment regimen.
  • Updating physical examinations teaching delegating to or supervising other personnel in implementing the treatment regimen.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge of basic nursing principles and techniques to include physical assessments clinical judgments treatment planning supervisory roles and evaluations.
