Job Summary

Our In-Office Counselling (INOC) Program is seeking a Family / Individual Counsellor to provide in-person counselling to individuals and families experiencing gender-based violence relational harm grief and loss and child protection involvement.

The role involves working with clients facing acute stress safety concerns and complex relational dynamics often within systems that hold significant power over their lives. It is well suited to a counsellor grounded in dignity-centred anti-violence practice and able to work thoughtfully with risk and accountability.

The position includes a mix of short- to mid-term counselling with some crisis intervention as needed and is supported through regular clinical supervision team consultation and collaborative case discussions.


About INOC

INOC provides free dignity-informed community-based counselling to individuals and families referred through MCFD or who self-refer. Practice at INOC centres client agency safety choice and attention to power dynamics with collaboration across community mental health and healthcare partners when needs fall outside program scope.


What Youll Do

  • Provide individual and family counselling using evidence-based dignity-informed and anti-violence approaches
  • Conduct assessments including risk assessment and safety planning in complex and evolving situations
  • Work with individuals and families impacted by gender-based violence violence chosen within family systems child protection involvement and other forms of relational harm
  • Provide crisis intervention and stabilization when required
  • Coordinate referrals and collaborate with community partners
  • Maintain accurate confidential and timely case documentation

What You Bring:

  • Bachelors degree in Social Work or a related social science field
  • Masters degree RSW or RCC designation is an asset
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience providing counselling to individuals and families
  • Equivalent combinations of education training and experience will be considered


Your unique qualities:

  • Strong ability to establish trust and maintain professional relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Demonstrated competence in risk assessment safety planning and crisis intervention
  • Experience with counselling approaches such as:
    Response-Based Practice SFBT DBT CBT Narrative and Family Systems Therapy
  • Strong grounding in dignity-informed strength-based anti-violence and resilience-oriented practice
  • Familiarity with local community resources and referral pathways
  • Ability to work independently while also being a strong team player
  • High standards of ethics confidentiality and professional integrity


Other Musts:

  • Required training will be provided at no cost (SafeTalk CPR-C Mandt-RC Privacy and Information Sharing Anti-Bullying and Harassment and others). Existing certifications are an asset.
  • Successful completion of background checks through the BC Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General
  • Union membership is required (1.85% union dues deducted from pay)


PROGRAM: In-Office Counselling (INOC)

LOCATION: On-site Kamloops BC

STATUS: Part-Time

SCHEDULE: 30 hrs/week - Monday to Friday - During the office hours of 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM (specific schedule to be confirmed with successful candidate)

REPORTS TO: Program Coordinator

COMPENSATION: $40.03 - $50.59 per hour (Grid 14-P as per collective agreement)

UNION: BCGEU
