About the role

The Senior Right to Access Officer makes and reviews decisions about access to information in accordance with the GIPA Act and supports the team to deliver quality customer service and meet departmental and statutory compliance processing and reporting requirements.

This role also supports the manager in coordinating the departments responses to NSW Legislative Council orders for the production of documents under its Standing Order 52 to facilitate rigorous compliance with requirements.

About you

The successful candidate will need to have:

Comprehensive knowledge of the GIPA Act Freedom of Information Act 1982 and other relevant legislation to make well-informed decisions about access to information.
Solid understanding of compliance requirements for Standing Order 52 Orders for Papers and have the ability to assist in coordinating and organising document returns to The Cabinet Office.
Strong analytical and decision-making skills to assess access applications and draft decisions that can withstand external review and scrutiny.
Experience in handling reviews and appeals (internal and external) related to information access demonstrating an ability to manage complex and sensitive matters transparently and accountably.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for providing legal information collaborating with colleagues and delivering quality customer service.
Ability to contribute to legal projects and process improvements including educating staff about relevant legislation and supporting compliance across the department.
Organisational skills and attention to detail for managing competing priorities meeting statutory timeframes and supporting responses to parliamentary document production requirements.

Essential requirements of the role

Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in applying information access legislation including the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009and making decisions in response to requests for information.
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to thevalue of public education.
