Key Responsibilities
1. Credit Risk Management & Policy Compliance
- Assess credit applications and ensure compliance with company policies.
- Evaluate customer creditworthiness using financial statements payment history and industry benchmarks.
- Define and enforce credit limits and payment terms.
- Enforce compliance with requisite documentation and approval processes for credit extensions.
2. Collections & Receivables Optimization
- Develop and implement proactive collections strategies to reduce overdue invoices.
- Monitor accounts receivable aging reports and take action on delinquent accounts. Work with customers to resolve account reconciliation disputes and negotiate payment plans.
- Maintain strong collaboration with the sales and finance teams to ensure alignment on credit terms.
3. Customer Relationship Management & Dispute Resolution
- Engage directly with key customers to maintain strong relationships and improve payment behavior.
- Address and resolve payment disputes efficiently.
- Communicate credit terms and collection policies effectively to customers and internal stakeholders.
4. Reporting Compliance & Financial Controls
- Prepare detailed credit and collection reports for senior management.
- Drive compliance with financial regulations internal audit policies and credit control best practices.
- Liaise with external auditors legal teams and regulatory bodies regarding credit policies and overdue debt management.
5. Process Optimization & Strategy Implementation
- Identify inefficiencies in the credit control and collections processes and implement improvements.
- Drive automation of credit risk assessment and collection tracking.
- Develop credit risk mitigation strategies including credit insurance and alternative financing solutions.
- Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance Business Administration Economics or a related field.
- A minimum of a Second Class Upper (2:1) or Upper Credit is required.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in credit control collections or accounts receivable with at least 2 years in a supervisory or team lead role
- Strong understanding of credit risk management collections strategies and receivables management
- Proven experience enforcing credit policies and managing customer credit limits
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial statements and credit reports
- Experience working cross-functionally with Sales Finance and Risk teams
- Excellent negotiation communication and stakeholder management skills
- High level of integrity and professionalism
- Proficiency in accounting/ERP systems and Microsoft Excel
- Relevant professional certification (e.g. ACA ACCA ICAN CFA Part qualification) is an advantage
- Strong analytical numerical and documentation skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
