F.H. Collins Secondary School is currently seeking a passionate educator to join our dynamic learning community. F.H.C is a dual-track English/French Immersion school serving approximately 800 students in grades 8 through 12. We provide students with a diverse range of academic athletic performance outdoor/experiential trades and arts programs. We are proud of our strong academic programming cultural diversity and commitment to meeting the needs of all learners.

Located in the capital city of Whitehorse Yukon F.H.C sits alongside the Yukon River on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Taan Kwächän Council. Our school continuously works to honour First Nations ways of knowing doing and being and we value our deep connections with families and the broader community.

This temporary Bilingual Math / Numeracy Coach Teacher position is 0.571 in Semester 2.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor of Education or equivalent with university courses in Math or demonstrated math expertise
  • Experience developing and implementing numeracy intervention programs for teens and coaching secondary teachers in a variety of math instructional strategies
  • Recent classroom experience teaching math at the secondary level
  • Recent classroom experience with differentiated instruction and principles of inclusion in the context of current BC curriculum
  • Recent classroom experience using competency-based instruction and evaluation

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:

  • Superior classroom management planning and organizational skills;
  • Willingness and ability to teach all relevant Learning Standards and foster an experiential learning philosophy;
  • Ability to adapt and modify strategies and curriculum to meet a range of learning abilities
  • Experience incorporating First Nations ways of knowing doing and being into math;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work positively and collaboratively with students parents school staff leadership and the school community
  • Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction using current competency-based assessment curriculum pedagogy and practice;
  • Demonstrated ability and interest in working to support whole-school goals in numeracy beyond the classroom including student knowledge gap-filling data tracking and creating and leading professional development in math
  • Experience working with and effectively supporting students with learning difficulties
  • A knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of First Nations people of Yukon and a culturally diverse student population
