Job Summary

The Office of International Education (OIE) a key component of DUs Internationalization unit serves primarily undergraduate students pursuing education abroad term-length programs. The OIE manages a robust portfolio of over 100 programs across more than 40 countries and supports approximately 1000 students annually who participate in DU Partner Programs and unaffiliated study abroad opportunities.

Position Summary

The Assistant Director holds a leadership position within the OIE responsible for providing DU students with access to transformative global engagement opportunities through the management and administration of all education abroad programs. This role requires comprehensive oversight of education abroad operations including direct service delivery management and policy development related to program administration crisis management program development financial management office operations student advising and student health and safety.

Essential Functions

Operational Leadership & Management

  • Collaborate closely with the Director to manage and oversee all day-to-day operations of education abroad advising support services and programming
  • Manage and supervise all elements of the study abroad lifecycle including advising services pre-departure orientations application management and administration transcript processing and immigration advising services

Cross-Campus Collaboration

  • Maintain effective collaborative working relationships with the Registrar Financial Aid Office Student Billing Student Rights and Responsibilities and other university departments to resolve student and program issues affecting students studying abroad

Program Evaluation & Strategic Development

  • Continuously evaluate programs and provide recommendations to the Director to enhance program options and student access with emphasis on alignment with the universitys financial model
  • Share and disseminate information on current issues in international higher education education abroad trends and international mobility patterns with staff and the university for strategic planning purposes
  • Support processes for internal and external surveys and national reporting (Open Doors) and share analysis and implications with campus stakeholders

Advocacy & Curriculum Integration

  • Advocate for international education experiences and liaise with academic and non-academic units to integrate global learning into curricula

Student Advising & Support

  • Advise students on the DU portfolio of programs and provide comprehensive support during all stages of the education abroad process for prospective outbound and returning students

Supervision & Staff Development

  • Supervise OIE student staff including graduate assistants and peer advisors

University & Professional Representation

  • Represent the University and its education abroad programs with considerable independence throughout campus with professional organizations and associations and with international partners

Additional Responsibilities

  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced understanding of study abroad office operations including lifecycle administrative processes advising best practices program development and management of diverse program options
  • Knowledge of international higher education administrative practices and procedures student records systems and international education frameworks
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for engaging with international education administrators university staff and administrators faculty program managers and host institution representatives
  • Outstanding intercultural sensitivity and competence
  • Comfort with multitasking and managing multiple priorities and deadlines effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to work positively and productively with dynamic and diverse groups of faculty staff and students
  • Self-motivated with strong initiative to proactively identify work opportunities and drive accomplishment of shared goals

Required Qualifications

  • Masters degree
  • 4 years of experience in the field of international education

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in the field of international education
  • Proficiency with study abroad management software such as Terra Dotta Banner Salesforce or similar systems
  • Personal experience working living and/or studying abroad
  • Experience with risk and crisis management in international contexts

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment
  • Unexpected interruptions occur frequently; stress level is low to moderate
  • Noise level ranges from quiet to moderate

Physical Activities

  • Ability to sit at a computer workstation for extended periods
  • Occasional requirement to move about the office and campus with capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Salary Grade Number

The salary grade for the position is 10.

Salary Rate

The salary rate for this position is $63500.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate departmental budget availability internal salary equity considerations and available market information but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
