The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water managing wastewater and stormwater and reducing air noise and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country with nearly 6000 employees. DEPs water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the systems 2000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.
New York City has approximately 140000 catch basins 114000 hydrants 90000 valves 14 gatehouses 3 reservoirs 68 groundwater wells a 100-million-gallon underground storage tank and 7000 miles each of both sanitary sewers and water mains. The responsibility of maintaining these vast networks falls under the Department of Environmental Protections Bureau of Water and Sewer Operations (BWSO).
The primary responsibilities of the Bureau of Water and Sewer Operations are the operation maintenance and protection of the Citys drinking water and wastewater collection (sewer) systems; the protection of adjacent waterways; and the development and protection of the Departments Capital Water and Sewer Design Program. The Bureau also approves and inspects water and sewer connections performed by licensed plumbers and/or authorized addition the Bureau has overall responsibility for the approval and inspection of all public and private construction projects which could impact on the Citys water or sewer systems.
The Bureau of Water and Sewer Operations seeks to hire a Supervisor Watershed Maintenance Level I for the Division of Distribution Operations Richmond Chlorination located in Staten Island NY. Richmond Chlorinations role in the Bureau is to ensure that potable water is treated to the appropriate level for distribution to Staten Island residence.
The selected candidate will supervise one or more Watershed Maintainers in the operation maintenance repair and inspection of water treatment facility and all its equipment. They will collect chlorine samples records and prepare reports perform basic calculations adjust chemical feeding rate perform chemical feed pump calibrations and perform inspections. They will perform corrective and preventive maintenance cleaning landscaping and snow removal tasks. They will perform tasks that require physical labor i.e. entering confined spaces lifting heavy objects (not more than 30 lbs.) climbing ladders etc. and ensure that facilities and work methods are in compliance with environmental health and safety regulations and policies. Selected candidate will use current Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) stores and track all maintenance activities and prepares reports as needed. They will review and assign work to personnel in the operation maintenance repair and inspection of water plant facilities and locations associated with water plant operations. They will also perform annual evaluations of subordinates prepare periodic reports of water quality and provide on-the-job training to develop watershed maintainers skills and knowledge.
Within 6 months of employment candidate shall obtain and maintain FDNY Certificate of Fitness for Storage and Handling of Corrosives and Oxidizers (C42) and Handling of flammable liquids (S94). Training material will be provided free of charge by FDNY and the test fees are waived.
Within 1 year of employment candidate shall obtain a grade 2B Water Treatment Operator License from NYS Department of Health and maintain the license throughout his employment by taking continuing education classes. NYCDEP will provide all training material and bear the costs.

Qualifications :
A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus three years of recent satisfactory experience in the operation maintenance repair construction or inspection of facilities equipment and lands in a watershed area including aqueducts reservoirs water and/or waste water treatment plants; at least one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
For Assignment Level II
In addition to meeting the Qualification Requirements above to be assigned to Assignment Level II candidates must have one additional year of full-time satisfactory experience in a supervisory capacity as described above for a total of four years of experience.
For Assignment Level III
In addition to meeting the Qualification Requirements above to be assigned to Assignment Level III candidates must have four additional years of full-time satisfactory experience as described above at least two of which must have been in a supervisory capacity for a total of seven years of experience.
License Requirement
A Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
